Hi

I'm reinstalling FSX on a clean FSX dedicated 560GB disk that has reformatted. The FSX / Acceleration Install went okay (which I only ran once to confirm it had loaded okay) but now I've reinstalled all the payware A/C and a few other things now. I followed NickN's (The FS guru from Flight 1 I think) advice on reinstall of FSX itself.

I've done the AC loads the lazy mans way of totally backing up the original drive (350GB), running the install program for the A/C to validate and then copying the old file back to the new installation on FSX. I'm getting the error on 2 occasions:

1. When FSX loads (ie just before the welcome screen) and simconnect starts to load REX, FSUIP, UT2 and I guess the rest of the pavla which I assume are the .dll files such as CS configs, shadz, accusim, load managers etc. happens about 1 out every 2-3 times.

2. once any a/c is selected and loads to 100% then crashes about 50% of the time regardless of A/C selected.

Prior to reinstall I was getting this about once a week. Which I thought was normal and can live with it, but I've got to the point that I don't even want to fire up FSX and try to fault find.

My questions are:

1. How often do you get the error message? IE what is normal? Never, once a week, once a fortnight, once a month, using FSX daily?

2. Do you know why you get the message? (to give me hints to fault find) IE the simconnect error

3. Can anyone confirm if the .dll files for the likes of Captn Sim, shadz, accusim, VLC, etc are loaded. Is it t at boot of FSX or once the sim is running (ie welcome screen). So I can disable them one by one

I am getting close to doing another FDISK and starting again and doing a very painful step by step install / reboot / test. Which will be Feeking painful for the 61 payware A/C, then there are the repaints, freeware A/C, sound packs etc as well!! That's before starting on the scenery!

Currently loaded apart from A/C are
REX Overdrive
FSUIP
Shade
UT2
FSX Global
VLC + VLC Airports
FS creations Airports / Freeware
A/S VFR Germany West 2010

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Don't worry about Tech Specs of the PC it's a brand new Ivy bridge build on Win7 64 - it software related for sure!

In the mean time I'm going to fire up ROF to get some virtual flying done this weekend!

Cheers Paul

Tell you the truth Paul , even a complete reinstall still has its problems .. all the payware registrations go back to the (least me) the 'C' Drive .. over the years , simply so many , go and do a complete start . almost requires a complete new PC .. I have so many backups and registrations , currently i want to get FS9 up and running .. specific .. just to get my old Captain Sim Yak and 104 Back .

Hi,

Winows 7 I bet. Longer flights?

I have the same problem, at the moment I just don't use menu windows during flight. Have been given some instructions in a different thread which I haven't tried yet.

Best of luck

Well after a great deal of head scratching a strip and rebuild of the PC and 2 installs of Win 7 and FSX I've finally sorted out what the problems are:

FSX would CTD two out of every three loads. I isolated this to when FSUIPC was installed I got the CTDs the error in event log giving a faulting module of dinput.dll. This was due to the way the program asked windows what inputs to use I guess which highlighted an existing problem. But further investigation found the CTDs only occurred when a Logitech G35 USB headset was plugged in. All the normal driver updates / rollbacks etc didn’t cure anything.

Without the headset FSX loads fine but no sound, and without FSUIPC loss of a lot of customization so I got a standard 3.5mm headset only to find that the on board sound card is faulty after some email exchanges with the manufacturer it would appear that my mobo is faulty too pirate.gif

So it’s RMA for the mobo now, then start again….

That is the reason I haven’t been active on the site -spare time has be fault finding and forum and technet reading . So perhaps by August I might be able to post some decent shots of the rebuild in action. sleep1.gif

Gotta love FSX... It dos what we all want it to do, which is Simulate the Flying experience not play a Game (Boo MS Flight). Don't get me wrong I'm a Gamer from way back and My new system runs todays Games at a great pace.
Skyrim and Deus Ex Human Revolution last couple I have played... Yes Deus Ex is old but really Good and no problems what so ever. Fraps recording brillant run all sorts in the background no worries.
But at this point in time I'm looking to Sim!

With a very anticquated? (spelling) program.

I totally belieave that a good FDisk once a year is a must.. complete reinstall. I really need to do it and modify how I have setup my system. Purely because I have FSX loaded on a non SSD drive and I made some really stupid mistakes when I first got my New PC.
Have researched a fair bit on FSX setup and this link I think describes a decent way of going about it.
I to as this guy belieaves that If you Update a driver, remove a program or make some change which effects your registry then a Restart is required.

http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.html Lot of good advice as far as I have read anyway. A lot of which I do as general practice anyway.

Good Luck with the Reinstall if you decide to go again. God knows I need to move My FSX over to the SSD drive. Sooooonnn.

Also with a suspect system don't want waste time loading and then reinstall.

Yep got to agree Nick N has some very good posts with solid advice.

Seemed many had all sorts crashing problems this last month and i think the prize went to Dave , he simply could not install FSX full stop after a crash .

I had the typical log book error , running FSX fine the night before , altho i was trying to install the DSB camera program , maybe have been the cause and destruction due to its stupid installation setup , designed to stop thievery but makes i damn difficult for the honest .
