dry.gif I have upgraded my system to Windows 7, 8 gig ddr3 memory, new motherboard.
I still have my GTX460 and am now starting to get quite a bit of 'spiking'.
Not sure what the answer is but would welcome suggestions and possibly recommendations
as to what card to upgrade to - preferably Nvidia as I am used to them..
Many thanks

Spiking could be a result of many reasons?? Overclocking - even factory overclocking - can result in spiking. I had a 7900GTX which was factory overclocked which I had to tweak back to reference specs to get it to work properly. Heat?? Did you do a complete fresh OS install as it could be a driver installation issue. Is your PSU adequate?? They'd be my likely culprits.......... I actually use 2x EVGA GTX460's (With XP and 4GB Ram) with no issues..........

As for a replacement card......... how much can you afford........ the new GTX680's will be appearing in stores shortly!!

Spiking has always disappeared when I reduced the autogen setting.

Here is a quote from another forum fwiw, but i agree with the sentiment:

"We just finished some benchmarking on the new GTX680. Confidentialy prevents me from posting 3DMark 11 scores here, but anyone interested this card will not be disappointed. However, remember that old FSX is processor heavy. Better to push your CPU to 4 GHz if possible if you can't afford one of these. "

I would be tempted to overclock the CPU, have a look at the 600 series and then buy the best affordable card (nvidia).

Yip G/card secondary now for higher enders , processor first , typically its a measure by the people running X for so many years ... but always go NvidiaGe/force and mug the rest.
