My name is Quenton and I live in Auckland. I have spent a fair amount of time reading post's on this forum and I see that there are some very informative post's. I am a newbie, have just built a new system and I am looking to get the best out of my computer.
Spec's
Intel Core i7 950 Nehalem 3.06Ghz 8MB LGA11366 Overclock 3.8Ghz
ASUS P6X58D-E Intel X58 Core i7 PCI-E DDR3 LGA1366
Corsair CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3-1600 CL8
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200RPM SATA II
Prolimatech Megahalems CPU Cooler LGA1366
Silverstone Strider Essential ST50F-ES 650W PSU
Gigabyte GTX460 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-E OC
CoolerMaster CM 690 II Advanced Mid Tower Case
Software
Win 7
FSX
PDMG 747-400
VLC
I think I have enough grunt under the bonnet to get some good result's but I just need to know how to fine tune the engine to maximise performance.
Questions,
1. Doeos anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do to maximise performance on my computer, (gain the highest possible fps) ?
2. What software is the best ? (Scenery, Weather, Traffic)
3. Preferrably I would like to take my system to someone who can tweak/improve FSX to gain max performance, is there anyone who would be kind enough to help me out here ?
4. I am having a problem trying to plug my pc into my Sony Bravia t.v via HDMI. The message I get is "unsupported signal, check your output device". Has anyone else had this problem and if so what is the fix?
I do a little bit of flying real life, but I am really keen on simulated flight aswell and looking for max immersion.
Any thought's and help would be appreciated.

Some things I personally would not want to do without.
-TrackIR so your view changes as you move your head.
http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/-REX2 (Overdrive I think the latest version) for a Weather addon.
http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/-I use a Saitek Pro Flight Yoke system with some rudders and a throttle quadrant.
http://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/Saitek-...System/1545633/ and
http://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/Saitek-...Pedals/1519226/ A lot of people here love the CH Products brand of these too.
http://www.chproducts.com/retail/index.html-All the Godzone payware scenery
http://windowlight.co.nz/store/index.phpPretty hefty investment and unless you have a fair bit of disposable cash you would likely want to buy it over time. I listed it in order I think i would buy it if i was starting out again. after that there is a ton of payware and freeware planes and scenery to choose from. Many are completely awesome but I was trying to keep my list somewhat small for you.
As far as tweaking, a ton of info here

Doesn't sound like 'grunt' will be a problem. From what I'm reading, FSX tweaks are becoming a thing of the past. If you're using 'acceleration', you're pretty much up to speed (pun?) so, if your hardware and software are operating correctly, you're good to go. Find the areas you'd like to improve then dive into the wealth of ideas and suggestions out there. Try to be hands on with your equipment - find someone who'll explain then let you do the work. There are so many schools of thought about FSX and I've graduated from several so ask questions and, as you fly, keep a note of what's good and what's not so.

Howdy there fellow flight Simmers

Well with all respect to people who feel all hope has faded for squezzing that extra bit out of FSX.....after eighteen odd months and countless reinstalls of FSX EUREKA comes to mind. I fumbled across this cool little website (will try and track it down) that will free of charge reconfigure your CFG file aswell as giving hints, not just the usual hints but alsorts. Also running FPS limiter alongside the retickled CFG file my FSX is running the best it has ever down....am very impressed after thinking all had failed.
http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.htmlFPS limiter
The default is set to 30 FPS, the retickled CFG recomendations was to set to 20 FPS however I am finding 15 to be satisfactory...JUST THE CATS WISKERS!!!!
