Forgot how unpredictable weather can be. Thought I would go for a nice dusk flight from Rotorua to Tauranga not even thinking about anything but having some fun on FSX. Never tried the 15 minute real time weather update option and thought i would give it a go. Fired up a 172 and took off into the fading light thinking how beautiful it all is (thanks again Real NZ). First sign of 'reality' set in about halfway there when I hit some robust gusts. Thought for a minute my game was bugging out or something, but then I saw the low clouds off on the coast and figured it may be working as intended.
Was getting darker much faster then I thought, and I saw the clouds were coming down lower as I approached the coast (and my destination airport) to the point where I was lucky if I could stay out of them yet stay 800' above ground. I have to admit I went from having what i thought was going to be a little putt putt on my flight sim to taking it seriously! Thinking I am losing my light, I suck at IFR and have no radios set up for it anyway. Then I heard the rain hitting my plane and that upped the ante some more. I was actually glad to touch down and taxi off that runway.
10/10 for immersion in this game

Venge I had to check some scenery in the West Coast , this is in FSX and course me always Real World Weather , this i did this last week , we always get it good in Canterbury , well with our North West winds but in Hokitika it was ..dang ruff as hell .... this was me in a Cat , thought i,d try a single engine , the Douglas SBD , now thats what its all about , what a fun ride

Ya, I have to spend more time figuring out my Cat. Just so impatient to get up and look at the beautiful scenery I always put off 'figuring out' the Cat for flying something I am used to (172). It is one in depth sim that Cat

Chap , get your self a 'Mic' ... Dicky Smith . flying the 'Cat' oooH boy! thinks a Multiplay is required , and i am sure you will love MP with the company we have , we'd get you flying it like a Flightsim Veteran !

Just went for a flight myself Whakatane - White Island - Tauranga - in real world weather the weather wasnt the best, bit of rain and quite cloudy ...but when I went outside it ws no where near that bad...maybe its a predicton of the weather later tonight but yes the immersion was great

Well with that Paul , ya better get your self a 'Cat' .. 'This is one ' that surprised the pejeepers outta me , yeah yeah .. not general aviation , or the way we are going in the virtual world it might be ! In real world weather due to its design , makes ya busy .. a DC-3 that can land anywhere , its just getting to know those engines

I am all set up for teamspeak and ventrilo already (mic boom on my headset) and would love to get some pointers off you regarding the Cat! Will be great
However the next several days are going to be a bit hit and miss for me as we are in the middle of getting ready to move to a new house. Once things settle down here a bit, will definitely be able to pin down a time to give FSX multi-player a go

I am still not convinced those gusts I was experiencing quite a bit east of Tauranga were 'real' or just a weird bug. The terrain was something that could create that sort of thing I guess. My speed was jumping between 90 and 120 knots and this happened in less then a second for about 20 seconds. Was bizarre really. Bug or not, it it created the fun for me because from that point on I was taking this flight 'serious' lol
