NZFF

I would like an enhanced plane to tour NZ with. Stick with a prop engine(s) as I want to be able to get into some of the smaller airstrips (Great Barrier etc) of New Zealand. So what plane type is fast in the air yet able to handle short(ish) runways that is available?
My guess is a twin prop something or other, but I am the first to admit I am not very knowledgeable on the various makes and models of planes and their abilities let alone what is out there for FSX.

Out of that lot I would take the Cessna 185..although that maybe not fast enough for you. They have a Beechcraft Bonanza F-33 coming out soon which looks very nice

Alphasim are bringing out an BN Islander (which actually do fly to the Barrier and i believe it will come out in a Barrier scheme)...other suggestions - perhaps the Realair Beechcraft Duke but I think it may struggle to get into the Barrier strips.

NAH! Light plane, not always the most fun since many are so close to the defaults , best all rounder that tramps up and down the country , speed is very compared to the type off a DC-3 , but can land anywhere , the type has a couple off superb Civil Military and historical skins/paints , very New Zealand , you may have have heard off Accusim , this model has it built in , it is historic very famous .... Recommendation ,

I was not even going to at looking buying this , pleased i did , the Aerosoft PBY Catalina

Small short distance in the NZ , you want something that can teach engine control , management , this may be the most expensive addon you would buy but in term off flying into any part off this part off the world .

I am sure many Cat pilots will back me up here and in Multiplay FSX , Thumb s up

Edit: One thing I have been wondering about downloaded material, how best to back it up? I am assuming there is no real 'install' program for these things and you simply download the the file, unzip/unrar or whatever and then there ya have it, a file that you place in some folder in FSX.
Is it just a matter of taking said file and burning ti onto a CD/DVD and then you have your backup?

You can put on to CD or DVD , here you want to print any information off your purchase in case the the disk fails , this can be scanned and sent back to the company you d/loaded from .

I save duplicates on external HDs - You want to make a folder , myself i called it Payware Aircraft and Scenery inside that make a folder , simply call the product you have purchased , example : FSX Aerosoft Catalina , put your downloaded extraction file into it , save all proof off purchase and any documents off the transaction you have made , that includes registration keys , i save them on notepad and put them into the folder .

Going to take me a while to figure out all the buttons. Just getting and keeping 2 motor running at the same time is simulation enough for me and my Cat at the moment. Funny it was mentioned before, I also bought the Twin Otter while I was at the areosoft site. I did some work up in the Canadian arctic and had to fly on them several times and always thought they had high fun factor in real life, so hoping that translates over to sim life. And it is not near the simulation the Cat is so is a ton easier to get up and flying. Have to have something easy to tour around and look at my Godzone scenery with

It's a shame that Gt Barrier's airstrip can't handle Captain Sims 767!

The Carenado twins are very nice aircraft. Exceptional value for money too.

Continuing one with the request for suggestions. What sort of jet/airliner type plane for touring between airports in NZ? I feel i will definitely be wanting this sort of aircraft so i can experience the commercial airline feel of flight simming.

Well this one for me again not a hard choice , the LD or CS 767 , the CS757 tho gets every where , the class off these three models are put in my top three for commercial , the other is the PMDG 747 400 restricted to the CHCH -AUK run but hella lotta fun landing in Welly , for the older series .. the classic and can get in anywhere is the CS727 and with this one comes with a private jet amongst the types and livery .

I do spend more time in the CS727 for the reason off using flight maps and tuning radios during a flight within the NZ , It is the second time ive also brought this model , the first was the 2002/2004 CS for the earlier FS8/9 , its that good ! more extras in the FSX .
