Might just have to have a go at this demo. I have never really given X-plane any serious thought until now as with having so many FS9 addons (and $$$$$ spent) I really couldn't be bothered. FSX is too troublesome and in most respects too cartoonish for me to treat seriously. If P3D don't go 64 bit then this may be the leading future sim (why don't they show their hand?). All the other sims are ageing yet X-Plane is developing. Outerra shows promise but has a long way to go and will need to court developer interest.

I'm very careful today by compared to 20 years back .. funny off all those early and previous flight simulations they had more bugs than you get in summer , all the FLYS I/II/III .. FLIGHT UNLIMITEDS I/II/III .. With the death ... FLIGHT .. "that really lasted well and with raving reports not to mention my private CHUCKLE to that one " no one listened .. well microsoft's flight simulation backup its still in the wings so to speak , Large company's still design for it and they are friggen brilliant .. until other groups can prove and better the old base .... this going by these larger aircraft and scenery design groups Microsoft still has a hand to hold ...

....strange the return of FS9 just recent ... 2001/2 when it first was introduced no one had the PC that is current on your desktop .. makes or turn's FS9 an alternative to what many find due to money restraints a via-able choice , .. its the old gotta have gotta have gotta have syndrome , but many don't even use the flight simulator to its full .. pish posh been making or modelling scenery it obviously had some affect .

Now Xplane .. still waiting on that program my brother sorta was to thro out , maybe he has decided it is OK ? .....

Hi,

I tried several X-Plane Demo versions over the last, maybe, 15 years, including the most recent one, but was never able to make friends with it. I do not refer to the different settings and buttons etc, which I could get accustomed to (some like the joystick menu are even better IMHO then in FSX). What troubles me is the thing itself, with scenery looking repetitive (look at their own Autogen screenshots) and in a hard to explain sense artificial. Contrary to this FSX (and even FS9) looks lively. I can't say exactly what's the reason for it, but this is my impression.

Add the fact that I spent a huge amount of money for FSX scenery (including a share of NZ), and it's clear I am not inclined to leave the FSX/Prepar3d line of products anytime soon.

Kind regards, Michael

If I was looking to make a decision that wouldn't help me in the least. There is no doubt that xplane has the leg up on fsx in some areas and I am not talking about flight model btw.

They have pros and cons each. FSX is more rounded overall but some of xplanes pro's are pretty compelling to a lot of people.

You are right, xplane out of the box does have a sort of feeling, its a bit like you are flying over the perfect suburban area. Perpetually flying over where the stepford wives live smile.gif

If you want to put time in to it you can get and add some good scenery but it's not as readily available as something like orbx covering huge areas making things easy.

I kepp an eye on it and fly it from time to time, it's not my primary sim but I am confident it's is going to surpass fsx, its continualy being developed and hopefully they will work on important areas to bridge the gap between it and the features that fsx people cant live without.
