I saw that there was nothing about YSflight here, so i thought id say about it. Its low quality But its free, so it must be good. Theres also heaps of adons for it.

I beg to differ. It looks like some flight sim from 20 years ago. Free does not make it good and if you have recent version of MSFS then why bother.

Awwwww come on guys, it's free so it MUST be good!

I mean just look at the terrain mesh, cloud quality and autogen here. It rivals VLC !!

The colouring and attention to scenery detail here is spectacular!!

Oh, hang on .... huh.gif

I guess we shouldn't be too harsh. The developer has put a lot of effort into it and it is free.

I wonder how much "work" has been put into it, and how much is just ripped out of some old FS engine. There were a few flight sims around in the '90's, all of which are now gone (except MS) - it would be a small matter to use the engine out of one and then "develop" on it. But let's face it, there is that other "free" Linux one (that also has a Windows version) about (FlightGear) that is almost up to FS2002 / 04 - this one is just sad. Now, if this was 1993 and I had my trusty old 386 SX 33 with 4MB of RAM, perhaps then I would be blowing kisses... dry.gif

HEY WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember running that on my Commodore Vic20 at 4fps full sliders laugh.gif

Dunno, I get the feeling it took longer to sign up for NZFF and wait for confirmation than it did to code that.

I'm sorry I dont usually mock developers and that................ but yeeer I,m going outside a minute.....

C'mon guys, remember we have an unofficial rule -- you can only mock FS developers if you can do better, and have the proof!
Damn, I should've kept my flightsim experiments with XNA, I scrapped it because Xbox XNA stuff is meant to look a little cartoony, and I was going for realism. But it does show how far we've come, in the last decade.

Anyone who has a working sim gets my support, but not necessarily my interest.

...and it has my support, and has had for some years now. I love it! forget the flashy graphics, check out how it flies, the formation flying aspects... Give it a go, after all, it aint a big download <lol>

I fly FSX, and I have a powerful computer for it too. However I also play YS Flight. Why ?

Semetimes less is more. I can fire up YS in less than a minute, and be online flying air combat against friends from around the world soon after that. I can often carry out a complete online mission (combat, formation, virtual airline) in less time than it takes to fire up FSX and create a new flight

There are many add-on aircraft and sceneries that make the experience more fun. The game as downloaded is admittedly not too impressive. Howver with mods it becomes a blast.

The lack of texture mapped (skinned) aircraft renders it not as pretty as FSX, but conversely, it is not as demanding of hardware. Quick boot times result in a quick fix of simulation fun. I often just don't have the time to fire up FSX. Other times I do.

In conclusion, I don't claim that YS in any way competes with FSX, I just want you to consider that a lot of fun can be had in a small and free package. Checkout yspilots.com for links to many excellent add-ons.
