IL2 Sound Mod

There's a few mods out there now for IL2. We (the NZ IL2 community) have settled on a particular mod that provides things such as radar, moving map objects (ie ground forces can capture airfields and if you want it back you need to destroy them) and enhanced sounds.

A particular sound mod made by Tiger33 (details here) focusses on the fly-by sound. I made a 1 min video to demonstrate it, thought some here may be interested to hear (although YouTube does mess with the audio quality a bit)

What's the radar/moving map mod that you mention?

In IL2 you can bring up a map, which in single player shows all plane positions. Your plane is white on this map, the other planes red or blue according to what side they are on. In multiplayer, by default the map just shows your position, no one else's.

A map maker can put in radar stations, which show all plane positions for either or both sides (and still presents them as red or blue), but you don't know what plane is yours (although generally you know where you are and what direction you're headed so can work it out). The radar can be set to show planes between certain altitudes, so one can fly 'under the radar' so to speak. If an enemy destroys a radar station (by bombing for example) the ability to see other planes (and yours) will disappear.

Hopefully that explains it!

And I thought the sound mod I had was good...might have to reinstall 1946 and get the latest all in one from the AAA site.

you couldnt get that Spitfire sound any better , but the Beaufighter , it carried the same nickname as the Corsair ... Whispering Death as it approached , i wonder if i may be a little heavy with the drone ? ...this is one thing we must really listen for at the upcoming airshow and imaging two FU4s

The Corsair was actually the 'Whistling Death', the whistling comes from the noise the air intakes in the wings make in a highspeed dive.
