This is really more an add on to the above but to also reply to some comments in the FW190 screenie thread.

"TFK" or The Flying Kiwis is a term we coined as part of our get togethers on KiwiSim. We did fly an international game against some Aussies and Sth Africans over a year ago but don't really do anything organised on overseas servers.

You don't really "join" TFK, it joins you lol. Basically come along and fly with us on the Inspire server or on Woodys server on Friday and Sunday nights. Right then you will be flying with TFK, soon enough you will get known to the lads and be a regular on the server. Some of us make up special skins for the rest with personalised names and markings, with the TFK logo. You can be a part of that if you are a part of the community on KiwiSim. The lads are a mix of young and old, Kiwi and Aussie, all great guys.

IL2 is a completely different experience to MSFS. I can fly a plane on MSFS with my eyes closed (well, almost) but get a real sense of achievement on IL2 making it up, into a sortie and home again with missing elevators, rudders etc. The key is to get home, even if it means a gear up landing on a road near your home base.

Or my personal favourite, putting the Corsair on a nice little uninhabited island, watching aerial warfare at its best from my deck chair and sipping coconut milk.

Drat! Missed the boat for tonight. I'll need to crank up my old system and make sure I'm fully updated. Sunday may be a possibility!

Geeez Ace, I surely don't recall it looking that good out there last night lol.

Just so others know, and this is not really a spoiler, but I'm sure Ace plays back tracks (recording of the in game action that you can replay from any viewpoint at a later time) using a 'mod', which changes some of the effects, clouds, sounds etc. The colouring may also be changed in some of the screenshot editing. Just so you don't get into the game and wonder why it doesn't look as good as these pics!

It's all relative ... when you are in a heated furball you don't normally have time to ohhhh and ahhh over visuals anyway. You just want to get out alive, with both wings still attached!

Thats true. Most of the time you end up looking at something like this:

Although you can fly with the mods on and full settings (need a pretty grunty computer), and the game will honestly look just as good as FSX (but with guns!!! biggrin.gif)

Just like I don't have time to take screenshots whilst flying, I'd get my ass shot down twice as much! tongue.gif

Is there an article on Kiwisim somewhere on basic comms procedures - I've long since forgotten them!

It's pretty informal mate. Get in the channel for whatever team you are on. Speak up when you need help, see an enemy or just want to let off steam ... that's about it. We refer to where we are by the map co-ords and where in that grid by the numeric keypad locations. So if you said you were in G5 pad 5 you'd be in the middle of G5. Pad 1 would be bottom left corner, pad 8 top middle and so on.

Edit. Monday nights on the Inspire Server is generally a good intro to IL2. The settings are not as harsh as Woody's server - the Icons are on and you have the speed bar showing.
