First ever race on iRacing, done a few test sessions before this. Running in the Pontiac Solstice Rookie version (a little slower and less powerfull than the regular Solstice I'm told) at Laguna Seca, just 3 pics from the first corner on the first lap. Double shifted up into second gear on the start by accident, didn't really matter the end though.

Started in 11th posistion, finished in 4th with 1:51.286 being my fastest lap averaging 1:52.225 through the 11 lap race. Fastest lap out of us all was posted at 1:47.820.

Green flag, go go go!

Dramas in turn 1/2. Two cars forced to retire from the race. As the old saying goes, the race can't be won in the first turn, but it can be lost there.

View from an eventful day in the 'office'

Really enjoying this sim, a lot better than rFactor or even GTR2. One thing I've found so far is the fair play, which is fantastic. Too often I found in other sims that drivers with wrecked cars would stay on the track and ruin it for the others by getting in the way, and not pitting for a repair. While I've only been on iRacing since today, I've already noticed a big difference in the driver attitude, slower drivers move off the racing line and let the faster ones pass, drivers who've spun out don't come onto the track and into the racing line right away, they check for other drivers and get up to speed before joining in on the line again.

I think the main reason for this is because of the penalty system, if you make contact with another car, go off-track, spin out, contact a wall or crash you get a penalty, higher penalty depending on the severity of the 'offense'. There's a 'safety rating' on the license you get, more offenses and this lowers, less/none and it goes up. The biggest problem I have with the game is the damage model, while it looks great and to a certain extent does effect the handling, as of right now there's no way to completely destroy the engine, you could crash into a concrete barrier going 150kmh and the engine would still be running.

Would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to give car racing a go, it's the closest thing you're going to get aside from actually going to a track and doing it in real life. You do need a steering wheel to play this though, one with good force feedback would be the best bet.
