troubles with the 4.08 patch for IL2: 1946

A single forum dedicated to all other non Microsoft flight simulation games

Postby kiwibarguy » Tue Jul 22, 2008 1:25 pm

P.s.s Anybodyelse here a big fan of IL2-1946. It's another of my all time favourite sims. I have had real problems trying to install the 4.08 patch into my game. Nothing seems to happen when i install it. The server 'Hyperlobby' says that they only accept 4.08 and i'm lost as to what to do. I send the patch straight into the game main folder as with most games but it doesn't show up.

Has anyone here installed it with no problems? Does anybody have any suggestions or a link as to how i can remedy this. I have looked around and am still doing now but i stilll can't get it to go. You know that feeling, GRRRRRRRR angry.gif Brokenhearted Kiwibarguy (Paul)

p.s On the website 'Mission4today' there is a great campaign called 'Spit n' Fire'. It covers the Batlle of Britain with the entry of the Spitty's and their battles with the FW-190's, BF109's and the bombing of London with a whole host of HE1-11's to shoot down. Definately the best Campaign i have played so far, better than the default ones that come with it. Definately worth the download, around 46MB's.

Thanks

Hiya.

First, installing 4.08m is basically a case of running the installer, so it should work without a hitch. I've never had any issues. Bear in mind that there is also now a 4.09 patch that hasn't been officially released yet but we use it for co-op's as it's better graphics and scenery.

Also bear in mind that we don't allow mods, so if you've altered your game to change sounds, clouds, air configs and so on you cannot join the Inspire server. Some overseas servers allows mods, but it's widely accepted that modding the game dynamics can offer an unfair advantage.

Second, head to Kiwisim IL2 Forum, there's all the info you need there. In particular check this page and this thread. We have had a few come on board this week, and new faces on the server.

Thirdly, unless you want to participate in smack chat with overseas guys and join overseas servers, forget hyperlobby and enter the IP address manually in game. The Inspire server is NZ's 24/7 dog fight server, so you will get lower pings than overseas. We use Teamspeak to communicate.

Fourthly, see ya online smile.gif

Thanks Matt, yeah i haven't modified it at all, just entered a couple of campaigns from 'mission4today'. I downloaded the patch from 'gamespot' so maybe i should try to download another one from somewhere else.

What is the difference between a 'dedicated server incremental patch' and an 'incremental patch'?

The incremental patch would be from vers 407m to vers 408m, that should be the one you need. The server patch would be for a server installation (ie not a player's update). The Il-2 1946 add-on v.4.08m installs only over v.4.07m (1946 DVD or FB+AEP+PF+46 merged). The small "m" stands for merged - initially the IL2 game was a series of earlier add-ons (Forgotten Battles, Aces Over the Pacific and Pacific Fighters) that were merged to become one game.

I'll copy from one of the pages I mentioned to look at in my post, it sorta explains it. Download the 144 meg patch that's in bold.

To fly on the InSPire Dedicated Server you need the Sturmovik:1946 DVD patched to v408m.

Titles Required:

1. Sturmovik:1946 DVD, covers up too 4.07m ,

Patching required:

The current patch number on top of the 1946 DVD is v4.08m.

The required patch files are:

1. 1946_408m.exe

Mission For Today 408m Patch Download

note:The "m" stands for merged install.
The non "m" patches are for a stand alone Pacific fighters install

2. BETA v409B1m (Note: We use this to fly our Co-Op games, it's not run on the server at the moment)

I hope all this helps mate!

Great work, I'll be online after 8.30pm tonight.

I haven't tried the mission yet (actually I haven't got into the single player mode much at all) but would like to give that one a go, have you got a link (did a search and couldn't find it).
