I have to say this sim, even though in early beta release, is pretty impressive. Sounds are great, the models are well done as are the effects and the shuttle systems themselves seem to be presented in some detail. I have to say the immersion factor on this sim was quite high, can't wait to watch it progress as the author makes it clear that thisis very much a work in progress, nothing more.

Onto some screenshots, which I have broken down into 3 sections, On the pad, Launch, Through the atmosphere and Space.

On The Pad

Cape Canaveral, pad 35A (?) As you can see most of the surrounding buildings are modeled, as is the assembly building in the distance. It looks like the author has based the whole thing on a photoreal background, thats very blurry but would appear to be something he will address.

I was impressed with his model, stands up well and is better than anything I have seen in FS9

While the gantry's etc are simple, they look the part and do the job. Both the astronaut walkway and top helium fill thingy swing away at the correct time during the launch sequence. During that time there are a number of task you must complete to continue with the launch, the panel is very extensive but the system he has employed to find your way around worked really well.

Launch

I really felt the anticipation here, listening to the comms with launch control and the countdown was heaps of fun, especially as the shuttle engine nozzles start to adjust and the initial launch ignition sequences begin..

Blast off is loud and he has used real sound recorded during a launch, I recommened turning your sound right up for this..

Through the atmosphere

The effects of moving through the atmosphere and seeing the stars start to appear was pretty cool.

Given this is a beta 1.0 its pretty impressive, well worth a look and play around with.

I knew you would like it Jon ;) The author has been working on this project for two years and its pretty spectacular for a one man effort from scratch. Reading through the site you can see he has had a few problems with sabotage of his efforts but he has not given up. A truely amazing accomplishment.

Subs, If you want missions etc then try Orbiter which is very similer but focuses more on dynamics of spaceflight. Like is said by the Author it is a Beta and he makes no bones about the bugs etc.

For what it does so far it is great, he deserves to be congratulated and encouraged!! What sort of animal would want to sabotage this work? :@

Yes please do it's great to see someone doing something with a focus.
I remember MS did a Space Simulator years ago (anybody try it?) and it bombed because there wasn't too much point in drifting about among the planets.

Jimmy read my post

http://z11.invisionfree.com/nzff/index. ... topic=1853

If we start comparing this to Capt Sim version I must say that Cap sim probably ripped it off this guy?

CS version is very limited to Orbit to de-orbit with FSX and even less with FS9. For payware I have been dissapointed, if it did the full flight them maybe it would entice me to convert to FSX as well.

With regards to you question about the external tank. That is jettisoned 8 minutes in to the flight after main engine cut off high above the indian ocean. There was once a plan to utilise the external tanks and carry them higher to convert to parts of a space station. Very ambitous but that was the days of the cold war with the former USSR.

Jon, When you get to do the re entry phase that is fantastic with the glow effect. First time I tried I accidentally fired the thrusters and did a barrel roll through re-entry. Not the thing to do but at least the author has not initilised crash detection

The trick is landing and its amazing as well. Forget your Flight Sim landings this is a whole differant ball game ;)

Don't forget Jimmy, the CS shuttle is just the shuttle, no tank or boosters or flight, just slew it up and then bring her home if you got the FSX version, not even that in the FS9. This Shuttle sim would run well on your computer I think.

Yeah I was curious if the developer of this had made some missions for it, perhaps that is the next step for his development.
