After doing yet another reinstall of FS9, I'm just putting another sim on another drive which of course seems sensible for obvious reasons, why is it that I often see advice that says to install your sim say on F drive and if you have a spare then put it on another drive,preferably a portable,detachable USB type hard-drive and to leave the default C drive out of the FSim altogether. Also,does the FS9 CFG file still end up in C in the usual place. I know those two questions are not RBE specific, I just thought you might know.(I'll probably put this bit in another thread as well.)

I couldn't remember whether I put the VOZ stuff (all 4 including the AI pack.) or did I install the RBE stuff first-and does it matter? Does one overwrite the other depending on which way round you install them? Does this explain why I've not had much luck finding any of the 350 grass strips in NZ? (I do realize that like real life they can be hard to see at the best of times and don't exactly stick out like the proverbial!)

For example,with both installations you end up with two landclass files for NZ,one from VOZ and one from RBE, and do I still have to install the lakes fix and the seperate Landclass downloadable from RBE? (My disc is the 20m Mesh,Topo and Landclass all in one stamped June 2006.

I'm sort of surprised no-one has asked any of this before now,but now we know how involved with VOZ you are I thought it timely to ask how do they go together and how will they in future?

No idea. Maybe to have a clean non-fragmented drive?

Yes. There's only one place the FS9.cfg can be. both installs share it.

Not as far as I know. Both sceneries are completely independent.

There are actually 3500 (I know it looks like a typo, but it isn't) No idea why you're not seeing them - maybe the VOZ textures make them harder to see? Have you tried finding them with the location map on my site?

The VOZ one only covers Australia, so they work just fine together.

No, that'll srew things up. The lakes in the topo are much much better...

No, looks like you have the combo CD from geographx, so just install that and you're good as gold...

they should just work fine. At least they do on my system...

Hard to say. VOZ Pro still seems to be in it's infancy, so there are no concrete plans. I'd say though that it's safe to assume there won't be any conflicts even in the future. There is no real reason why there should be any conflict...

Thanks for the fast reply,I'll unVOZ and look for airstrips.Yes I have the maps from your site(they are great) RBE and VOZ do go well on my system too I just havn't seen any of the 3500 (sorry I did think it was a typo) strips tho'-I'll look harder!
RBE & VOZ doing a payware is rather exciting,any idea at all when we'll get to buy it, -for FSX I presume?
Seems now that FS is 25 it's really maturing,I'll get FSX but wont be rushing,I'll wait for the feedback and some addon's to appear- ie your new landclass.
I can't be too upset about upgrading,I've only bought one computer in my life (Just a pity it's not paid off yet!)but I think It'll be 2yrs before the next.If I get say a 4.8 CPUdual core and double PCIegraphics and 64bit mobo,vista(when it arrives) will that be rather average by FS11? should I already be thinking quad core or is that over the top ?

Voz Pro is mainly Koorby's baby and last thing I heard (he did announce this publically also) is that he's planning for a 2007 release and will concentrate on FS2004 first. Not trying to be an oracle here, there's simply not much to say at this stage...

When I have a look at FSX I wonder if those specs are avarage for FSX already. I guess we'll know soon. The FS team insists that FSX makes heavy use of the dual core and would also of quad cores, but some users aren't convinced about the actual utilisation. I can't comment, I don't have a dual core...

That's good news that VOZ Pro is FS2004 focused,as we now know,Microsoft is releasing the SDK's with FSX and not bringing them out a year later like they've done in the past.So addon's will be available from the outset,the last thing I want is a default sim.
It really is good that Microsoft sees itself as a platform only now for all the talented people (like yourself,Korby,Robin,Deane etc...)to really make it fly!
However untill I have the computer to see it all in all it's glory I'll be with FS9 for some time yet,I intend to have both installed when the time comes.We've got Vista to wait for yet and the patch for FSX so I'll most likely wait till then.

Just on the topic of dual core and FSX etc was reading this article over on taildragger's blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/tdragger/archive/ ... 11152.aspx For thos of you not familiar with taildragger, he is a member of the development team for FSX and posts on quite a few of the big forums.

I've been thinking about upgrading lately, but in a lot of ways it probably isn't best for me at the moment. I guess that with FSX I'll be in the same position as I was in with FS2004 -- my old system couldn't cope, so I upgraded almost immediately. The trouble with this is that I end up with a rather mediocre system throughout the lifetime of a FS version.
I'd be better off upgrading further into the life of FSX -- maybe a year down the track. That way I'm more likely to get a good, solid system for a reasonable price.
At present I'm continually amazed at the performance of FS9 on my 3-year-old system, this afternoon I flew from Palmerston North to Wellington (testing how the new Wgtn loads flying into it) using real weather, probably the first 'real' flight I've had since I began on Wellington 2 months ago, and I was in awe of how the sim looked and performed. I'd be mad to give that up for FSX.
One of the best things about FS is that it is immensely scaleable -- I can run the demo of FSX with good performance, provided I use minimal settings. This means that most average systems will cope, but they'll never see the sim as it was meant to be seen. That is great for those who just want to fly, but I want to see stuff, and I don't think that'll be all that easy for a while yet.

I agree totally Toprob. Upgrading in a year or so when the technology has been around a while is mighty sensible.I guess it's like when the first video recorders came out and they were $3,000!. It wasn't that long before they were half that.(now they're a couple of hundred!)
New cars are the same. They say an 18 mth old car is the best value for money.
Also I will let the young and the wealthy rush into it and find all the problems,and just what is what and report it to us in the forums.
Microsoft has finally released the minimum specs required to run FSX but no 'optimum' specs the way every other addon developer does. They are conspicuous by their absence.
However of course it is great that they have taken advantage of the new graphics processing technology that make the high end G/cards work for their keep.
I have now got 4 different PC's,3 of which are gifts from other people's upgrading and becoming surplus. While I,m going to network them together I also run different sims according to the specs of the PC. So I have FS98,FS2000pro,CF1,CF2,Sturmovic,Pacific Sturmovic and my baby-FS9. As you would expect I pretty much use FS9 exclusively,the others are for visitors and my kids. It all serves as a visual timeline for 6 yrs anyway.
Because I can't afford to upgrade every 2 yrs I wont even try to keep up with the 'Jones' and stay a step behind and save a heap in the process.
Since I've made this rather long post in RBE & VOZ I'd better somehow make it fit by simply stating I'll be with FS9,VOZ&RBE for some time yet.Those two addon's are all you really need at the end of the day,maybe AEU7 too if you like hanging around airports.
