Well, actually it's south-east of Te Anau. This is a freeware re-release of the 'Old Godzone' Te Anau scenery, for FSX. This is an autogenned photo-scenery, about 3500 sq kms, and the area incorporates Te Anau and Manapouri airports. The scenery doesn't include the airports yet, but I do have plans.

It's just about ready to go, hopefully released on Flightsim.com, because it is too big for Avsim. There is a small issue with the file size -- to keep it under 200MB I need to compress the aerial image quite a bit, although it looks a lot better with a lot less compression. I may offer a CD version of the uncompressed scenery for a price -- a lot less than a payware release, however.

This was meant to be a Christmas release, but it is still a couple of weeks away at the moment. Yes, it's FSX only, as will be all Real NZ and Godzone scenery from now on. (Except NZAA.)

I'd be interested in the uncompressed CD version, if you decide to offer this option. Thanks. plane.gif

Yes. The initial release won't include the finished airports, but they will hopefully come soon. I have a few family commitments at the moment, otherwise I'd be there and back already, but once I find a couple of spare days and some spare money I'll drive down to take some photos.

I'd like to do another 'Southern Lakes Adventure', which will include Queenstown, but that'll be payware.

Thanks, Murray -- and others who have requested a CD version when available. I have now decided to simply cut the area into 3 (subject to beta testing), and I'll now release it in 3 parts on Avsim. (They require files less than 100MB.) Since this meant reducing the compression to 85%, rather than 70%, I don't think anyone would notice the difference from the uncompressed version. (This is very like JPEG compression -- 85% quality is generally considered good enough for most displays.) However, I will test this further and see if there is any appreciable difference.

I'll still offer a CD version, but the download won't be quite the poor relation that it was originally -- you may not get much benefit from the uncompressed version.

Hi Rob,

I'd also definitely buy a CD version. It's great to see the original Godzone scenery (which I still have installed and fly regularly in my FS2004) being rereleased in an improved form like this.

Keep up the good work!

Ade

There are many types of scenery , But this is were I stand-up and advocate for NZphotoreal , LET THE PHOTO DO THE TALKING

place autogen in areas and have the valleys of tussock in photo , a fast mover , no frame rate hits at all cool.gif

the depth and the strength that really show the New Zealand Hi-country

many might say staged and paused , but this is quik flick around and shoot with no loss in detail !

between 450knts to 500 almost a STAR WARS cannon !

I think the contrast from the default in the distant background , well ?

see what i mean ... be interesting to see how the ORBX blends in or timmo,s Landclass

this is the reason for sure i'd stick with photoreal for any screenshot ........ Boootyfull thumbup1.gif
plane.gif

PS: that big blobby thing under my Mirage .... A bucket of sunshine cool.gif
