FromEarth&Sky:QUOTEThe unique, turquoise coloured lake water of Tekapo is the result of ancient glacier ice crushing mountain rock on its journey from the slopes of the Southern Alps to the rivers of the massive valleys that deliver the melted ice to the lake. The crushed rock produces a fine 'flour-like' powder that remains suspended in the water and, when reflecting light, produces the pale blue colour for which Lake Tekapo is renowned. Lake Tekapo is fed by two major glacial run-offs and 6 rivers. The lake is 32 km long and 120 meters deep at its deepest part.[/quote]

Mmm it'll do...
Will it be the same packaging as before ie Wanaka/Takapo?
What are the differences?

Sure is!....I went for a quick dip in there on the way back from WOW2008......Due to cold water temps, I think I technically turned into a female for a while haha
Looking good Robin...what a difference the extra phototerrain resolution makes eh

This is just the FSX update of Wanaka, but with some extra stuff courtesy of the guys over at ARNZ. I've rebuilt most of Wanaka Airport from scratch (although reused the textures), the idea being to get the best performance out of it even when chock full of airshow. This time around it'll be a real 'Warbirds Over Wanaka' experience.
Tekapo was always a CD filler, so it needed updating as well. However the FS2004 Tekapo had winter textures, but FSX won't -- there just isn't enough room on the CD, since Wanaka will take up 500MB. Once I go to FSX-only, I might have to shift to DVD...
I may release Tekapo as freeware again, if I can get it under 100MB.

Looks superb as always, and as far as the lake colour...

Looking good. Another thing to look forward to when I upgrade. What's the night lighting like on the lake? mI remember in FS9 when I was flying down south I knew instantly where I was if I saw a bright baby blue patch of water in the distance

Thanks, everyone. There's a handy webcam at Tekapo, controllable to a limited extent.

I can confirm that- when I was there a few years ago, in the middle of summer, I just had to jump in the water to cool down- but it was waaaaaaaaaaaay colder than what I had imagined.. I swam out to a rock and sat on it for about 20 minutes just to warm up enough for the return swim to shore
But seriously, the Mackenzie Basin is one of the most tranquil locations in the world, and just looks marvelous in flight simulator. I never thought the FS2004 version couldn't be topped, but that high res imagery works a treat. Good on ya Rob

That looks real. I think some people would have trouble making which is from FS or not.
