After solving recent water levels problems, I now find that my FS9 Real NZ Rotorua has cliffs around the lake edge by the airstrip. I did a re-install
but it hasn't helped. Is there any easy solution ? I recall when I originally installed Rotorua I had problems of this nature with the Island
and land masses sticking up where they shouldn't but can't remember how I cured it.....

You should be aware (from the Rotorua support pages) that Lake Rotorua does not work well without the 'Roads & Rivers of NZ' topo scenery. This is an issue with the default FS2004 topo for New Zealand, and is not caused by the Real NZ scenery.
However if you have the topo installed, and still have problems, then let me know.
