Prepar3d V3.0

I came home from a 4-week period away from my main PC and decided to try out P3D V3.0.

So far so good, using the Estonia Migration Tool I installed most sceneries I own. The subscriptions sceneries seem to work fine so far, though I have mainly checked Wellington. The main issue is that it seems the Wellington elevation correction is not respected. I disabled the Orbx elevation file and only the Godzone stub file is active in /scenery/world/scenery. Still sunken runway and ditches in between the runway and taxiways. Just thought I'd report my experience. I'm not posting for support since this is all new again.

I can check more stuff on request if necessary. I think I will reinstall sometime this weekend and leave out the Orbx stuff just to check.

Edit: Clean install with only all subscription downloads installed, no more elevation issue, but it does show a black runway/taxiways and apron at NZWN. I guess that was previously obscured by the elevation issues, haha.

Interesting. I'm waiting until all hardware & software is Win10 / P3Dv3 and then I'll do a complete re-build and re-install.
I will re-install most of the ORBX 'global' stuff, but probably not all the other world regions.
I'm in the middle of a 'world trip' (says he, who hasn't touched the sim in about a month).
When I finish the trip (if), it'll be NZ-only after that, most likely.
Cheers

I don't think the ORBX NZ scenery has had P3DV3 installers released yet. Is the Estonia migration tool working for P3DV3?

That's for the report, CP.
With Wellington, no matter the sim, if it finds Orbx NZNI it'll switch to Orbx elevations (hence the recommendation that NZNI-users don't install the transitional Wellington), so I'm not surprised that switching off Orbx didn't fix the initial problem -- you'd need to put back the proper elevation file, which is what you've done with a clean install.

Black objects normally mean missing textures, so I don't know what is going on there. Maybe LM have dumped support for this old-style technique, or at least some variations of it, so I'll need to look at that. However I'd be surprised if lack of support for FS2002-style ground polys showed up as missing textures -- normally these things either work or they don't. It may be that future projects will have P3D-specific ground polys, which I have played with, and although there are some issues getting them to work as I want, maybe 3.0 fixes this.

Once again, I am not yet in a position to download 3.0, but I am looking forward to trying it out once a couple of things are sorted.

Some has been updated already, certainly not all. The ORBX announcement forums has the, erm, announcements in it. A few of the regions already, and some other bits and pieces.

Yes, the Estonia Migration Tool is working for V3. The developer has been quick with the updates but you need the 'development' build to use it.

Regarding the elevation stuff at NZWN, in P3D V2.x I was able to fix it with the method listed in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=24619&start=20
But as I mentioned, that doesn't seem to work anymore.

I have just installed Auckland Supercity, Nelson and Tauranga and could see no issues in any of those addons.

I just remembered... I had to edit a shader file since I'm using an AMD R290X and they are getting driver resets if you don't edit one of the shader files. I'm not sure, but it might be the cause of the black taxiways and apron. I also noted today that it's not displaying the custom runway texture at some Orbx airports, so there seems to be a pattern :P.

Anyway, otherwise it all looks good and performs well in version 3. Looking forward to any upcoming Godzone stuff :).

Appreciate the update. Still splitting my time between Dunedin (specifically Taieri Airfield) and contract work at the moment, the contract work should be taking precedence, as this pays the bills, but I'm really enjoying building Taieri. But it does mean that I need to put everything else on the back-burner, including the P3D 3.0 installers.

I have been thinking that it's time to update my installers to allow installation outside the simulator in general, not just in 3.0 which requires it. In the past, the only way to do this with my installers was to use symlinks, but it's a tricky process for some of my users. Being able to a) select a simulator, and b) select a separate location for the scenery doesn't really make things simpler in a lot of cases, I know that if you give users a choice for a specific purpose, some will come up with another purpose for it, which leads to 'unforeseen problems'. That's business-speak for stuff-ups. And for some, too many choices can defeat the purpose of a nice tidy installer.

So in a way I am working on this, just thinking over some solutions, as I only want to do this once if possible. If I do it right, then it may be possible to go back to my original plan to use a single installer which can cope with changes in future sim updates. I may ask some questions about this over at FSDeveloper.com, to make sure that I'm covering all the bases...

Hi Rob,
Any news on the P3D3 side of things?
I'm planning to get the subscription when it's ready but have uninstalled V2 so there doesn't seem much point just yet.
I'm doing more NZ VFR flying on the sim these days so looking forward to it, though I imagine you have your hands full with your various projects.

A fairly rough plan is to get this done in January, but it does depend on a few things. I have yet to try v3, but I hope to get that installed in the week after Christmas.

Nelson will be first, as this is really the only 'product' which I'll still be selling in the New Year. Provided that goes well, the Subscription should be reasonably quick to get out.

Hello there,

i'm only using P3D V3 at the moment. So i have a few questions:
1) When i buy the current subscription now i get all issues from the last year, right? That corresponds to like 80% of NZL if i got that right?
2) Are those sceneries already compatible with P3D v3? I can use the EMT to install them if needed...The installer will be updated in January if i understand that right?
3) Is there a date when you'll take out the current subscription, so i can't buy it anymore? Will a new subscription start in 2016?

Sorry, English is not my mother language, so i might have more unclarity.
Thanks for a quick reply and all the best from Switzerland

Birger

Hi Birger
Yes, the subscription allows you to download all the scenery completed so far. The subscription is 80% complete, but it won't cover all the country, just the current areas, plus a bit more Bay of Plenty.
I am planning to remove the subscription from sale at the end of this month, and there won't be another subscription. The existing sub scenery may be released in the future as complete Real NZ areas.
At the moment the installers don't work with v3, but I hope to have this done in January.
