Woodbourne area flattens - VLC

Postby emfrat » Mon Jul 20, 2015 8:13 pm

I am starting a separate thread for this, because I don't want ORBX / FTX issues complicating things.
I have FSX +Acc running under Win7x64. I use FS Global 2010 mesh, and in NZ, VLC with RealNZ and Godzone Photoscenery .
I have always had big 'steps' or 'cliffs' in the general Woodbourne area, but it was livable.
Doug sent me the updated Marlborough files which I merged with the RealNZ Marlborough I already had. The colours seem more vivid and this makes the edges of the flattens much more obvious.
So I am using the little Halo buggy to make a ground survey, to compare with the features shown on the NZ Topo Map page.
Running off the W end of the runway, I met three steps of about 5m each. Heading E, there is one major one, of about the same height.
The NZ Topo Map shows a 20m contour E of the airport, a 30m one which encroaches slightly on the W end, and a 40m one some way further W.
Luckily there are a some creeks very conveniently placed to camouflage flatten edge cliffs. I intend to create a big flatten to create sensible levels, without inappropriate cliffs.
Tuesday and Wednesday are museum days, so I won't be doing anything until Thursday at the earliest. I can see what is needed, just need the time and the patience to do it.

Seeing as I do most of my FS flying out of Woodbourne I can't wait to see the results of your efforts to flatten out those steps off each end of the runway Emfrat. I've lost count of the number of times I've wiped out my landing gear taking off in aircraft to large for the length of the field.

Cheers Gary - I haven't forgotten it. I did the basic survey, but then got attacked by a variety of RW issues which are now under control. Should be under way again in the next few days.

MIKE .. Frankly .. Who the hell is Frank ! ... If I had complete photo real New Zealand , ORBX would be out , Primary is Canterbury and the area .. simply good honest terrain, West Coast always look good ... I can see the tunnel opening .. via Robs photo real .. really .. without effort so much easier to build airports onto .

Ian, I think I have the best around - Godzone + VLC - but at the Renwick end there is a steep embankment, which used to extend all the way west and across the river, and then there is Omaka sitting up on a plateau about 20ft above its natural surrounds, even though both Woodbourne and Omaka show up in ADEX as being at their correct elevations. I need to identify the flattens that are bringing things down.. That takes time, and patience.
It was easy to improve Glenorchy, because there are only two airfields on that default bgl, and the other is Milford Sound for which everyone most likely has Timmo's (or Mike's ?) final fix, so wiping out the default stuff did not create problems elsewhere.. I can't simply disable the default APnnnnnn.bgl for Woodbourne because that disables a lot of others, for which there are no third-party replacements.

I will prevail, but not necessarily tomorrow. :D

SO WHAT THE F happened ... why is every one left in the dark ! ... would have been great to blend the freeware/ payware ... WHAT THE F happened!!!
