NZTG perforamce propblems

Sorry to be moaning about fps as usual:

When ever I approach/depart NZTG any were with in a 18nm radias I get less then 10frames whenver looking towards the airport, there are also stuters, so its not a smooth 10frames, its the sort were flying a good approach in a jet is not possible..

As soon as I pan away from the airport, fps go up to 19. I understand this happens at all airports but this seems a bit more serios as even at heaths NZCH I get a good 15frames when looking directly at the airport. Happens flying any aircraft and all view points.

Turning off 3d objects completely fixes the problem but id be missing out on all that lovely scenery, my scenery list is in the following order:

Christchurch photoreal
Tuaranga
75m mesh

Rest is just the defualt scenery in defualt order.

So to the point of my posting here, is this a normal issue with this particular scenery? Am I missing some updates or should I rearange my scenery list? Is all godzone scenery this fps intensive?

Oh and Im useing FS9.

Thanks for your help
James

Trolly found that removing the autogen boats was a framerate saver.
Try that perhaps?

I turn down the autogen so that fences disappear, they seemed to me to be a frame-rate hog.

Hey Jimmy, is this the REAL NZ payware addon you have?

If so, as Charl said, disable the Taurnaga marina boat file (can't remember its name and location- toprob should be able to help you there). I also found simular results as Matt did, by turning the scenery complexity down and removing the fences, I get a steady 16-18fps around town and the airport :)

thanks guys, ill turn autogen off and scenery complexity down when flying to tg (although Im sure it still happens with unless I turn all scenery complexity off.. worth anothor try thow) and I'll wait for Robin to reply before deleting any bgls just to be sure what ones to get rid of (well, rename..)

weird aint it ...?

Yes indeed, thats why I thought I would post here as its quite unusual compared to other airports high detail.

The default FS2004 boats are quite heavy hitters, I don't think they have LODs. Since Tauranga I've used them a bit more sparingly. I still use them, though, as I don't think I'll ever get the time to make my own pleasure boats. They perform better in FSX.
Tauranga was designed to be variable by using the Scenery Density -- on lower specced machine you really need to lower the scenery density. Both the boats and fences can be removed this way, as a) they have a big effect on frame rates and B) they are not considered an important part of the airport.
Using the Scenery Density is kind of an old-fashioned system now. Although Tauranga includes LODs, it doesn't have any 'empty' LODs like more recent airports, so even though you're only seeing lower fence LODs when you are flying around, the sheer number of objects has an effect.
Now I tend to make a lot of objects disappear completely from a distance, but the consensus among designers is that there is still some computational overhead for invisible LODs. You can't really win.
Omaka/Woodbourne is a tricky case, in that they are close enough to effect frame rates. You don't really want Omaka's fences to affect performance at Woodbourne, but it's impossible to get around.
That's why the CPU is always going to have the most effect on the sim. There's so much computation which needs to happen long before anything gets to the graphics system, so putting in more RAM and faster graphics cards just isn't going to fix this.

yeah making the objects disappear after leaves the vertexs so the model is still there no matter if the textures are not, right ? so why not set animated trigger points at a 20/15/10 mile distance to show the buildings /fences at less than a mile /etc.. and make some sets of boats/ships/etc.. to save time in the future answering theses types of questions?
NZTG with a 3.0ghz HT/ ram and 7600gt still has a big big frame hit ,and my puter is not slow in any manner ,they dont have 8.0ghz puters yet do they ..

okay then, I', happy to just pull some sliders back when visting nztg, now that I know its not just somethign wrong with my sim.

Anyway photoreal look just as good with no buildings :D

they dont have 8.0ghz puters yet do they ..

perhaps a 4ghz dual core, and somehow get fs to use both cores :P

Omaka/Woodbourne is a tricky case, in that they are close enough to effect frame rates. You don't really want Omaka's fences to affect performance at Woodbourne, but it's impossible to get around.

So will this scenery be really hard on perforamce? I am considering buying more real nz scenery (nztg is all I have currently) yet may have to wait untill I have a better system...

Thanks again
James
