The problem is production time. Having to make a living from this means that I need to make some sordid business decisions. I'm already running on fumes now that Wellington sales have dropped off, and completing Hamilton would mean another two months before I have another 'product' available.

Honestly don't know. If it was for FS2004 only, then I'd estimate 8 weeks, but I have no idea how much longer to develop for FSX. Twice as long? Dunno. There are some FSX features which don't yet have tools to build them, so it'll be a bit of trial and error.

I am a bit confused here

Is this release going to be for FSX and backward compatible with FS9 or is FSX the reason its going to slow up the release for FS9 subscribers?

Since the original release of the Real NZ was for FS9 would it not make sense to keep those subscribers who got your full series happy first?

This will be a dual release -- two different versions combined on one CD.

MS are not going to invent anything, it'll be the designer community who do the work.

I'm absolutely sure that the final result will be in most folk's best interest. Which is a good thing, considering that there are some compelling business and work-flow reasons why I should do it this way.

i have to say im a fs9 manly user at the moment but id like to know if i buy something from now on its going to be a good buy not only will it work with my fs9 it will work with my fsx thats sitting unused at the moment ,in time ill will move on and all my money invested will work in fsx when i decided its time to put fs9 away with fs2002 ,
from a business point of view its the best move you can make
and im sure that others will understand that all good things take time
and godzone/nzreal is something that is good

Since I plan to do them all, anyway, eventually, I don't choose the airports, just the order they're released:)

This is certainly getting close. I have yet to decide whether to leave out some FSX-specific textures, as the late release of SP1 has meant that I haven't been able to do much work on this. This involves the new building textures -- in particular specular maps, self-shading and bump maps.
Self-shading has turned out to be a fizzer for me -- the 'new' shadows are quite light, which I find a bit wussy. For me, bright New Zealand sunlight calls for deep shadows, which I only get from the FS2004-style textures. Bump maps give a somewhat video-game look, which went out in the 90s. Oh well, it was worth a try.
There's also an issue with FSX ground textures, now that the Earth is curved. These worked pre-SP1, mainly due to a bug, but don't work as well with SP1. (the earth actually bulges up through the textures in places.) Again, I don't want to hold up release any further so a workable solution may mean leaving out some textures with FSX.
Autogenning twice -- once for each version -- has been fun <_<
The final beta is about a week away, but this always involves a lot of work on the actual installation, making sure that it will install as intended. Believe me, putting the scenery together is the easy bit compared to that. The initial Wellington release had an installation bug, and I don't want this to happen again.
I would be surprised though if I wasn't shipping by the 7th June.
