I havn't visited Taieri for a long time in the sim, but when I did today, I noticed some odd occurances.

user posted image
1) I seem to have multiple AFCAD's (The Godzone one and GNZLAP one I think) placed right on top of one another.

When I start on the runway, I see runways above me, and when I take off, I sheer through it. When landing, I touchdown, roll to the end of the runway, then drop a few feet onto the ground below. Which files do I need to delete to fix this, and where are they located?

2) I can see a mass of grey colored buildings on one side of the airdrome. The custom buildings on the other side (including the NAC hanger) are fine. Would you know how I can replace these textures?

A few months ago I accidentally deleted my 'Texture' directory inside the main fs2004 folder, and had to replace it by reinstalling fs2004 on another computer, and copying the newly created 'Texture' folder to my own PC. I only thought default textures where stored here, and addon scenery textures inside the addon scenery folder, as I have not noticed any other blank textures around my virtual world.

P.S.
I can't wait for the wider Dunedin photoreal to be released! Any date known when it will be ready?

In GNZLAP's first release, I uploaded (mistakenly) ALL the NZ AFCADs in my own Addon Scenery/Scenery folder.
Many of these were untested, and I posted a belated note
http://z11.invisionfree.com/nzff/index. ... wtopic=461

The only fix I'm afraid is to rename one of your AFCADs to NZTI.bak (say) and see the effect.
I think this may have been the cause of a lot of AFCAD misery in the past.
It's one reason I pulled the first release from the FS sites.

The Godzone Taieri isn't really compatible with FS2004. When it was designed there was no default Taieri, but Microsoft kindly added ONE new airport for NZ:)
Hopefully though we'll shortly see a new Dunedin photoreal release, and I'll re-release Taieri to match.

I must check up on the man I have asked for aerial photos of Dunedin and surrounds such as Taieri and the Otago Peninsula. It was some weeks ago now I enquired at the DCC (Dunedin City Council) The man said he'd see what he could find and get back to me. I'll give him a ring on Monday and ask how it's going.
Hopfully then I can then send Ian Warren what he needs for his 'Dunedin'.

Thanks, I have done that and now I only have one set of runways at TI, thanks.

May I ask what directroy AFCAD's are meant to be in, as I have them both in addon scenery/scenery and scenery/world/scenery ???

Also, Robin, how can I get those textures back on the blank airfield building. Your Godzone scenery has been working fine for me in fs2004 for over a year- only recently I have screwed it up myself.

Sure, you should make sure that you only have one AFCAD active for any one airport, but the AFCADs in scenery\world\scenery are different!!! These are not really duplicates, they are just copies:) See the difference?
This is the way I handle changes in the elevation of an airfield. To change the elevation of an airfield I create a new flatten, and change the elevation of the facilities within the AFCAD file. Unfortunately because this AFCAD is read after the AI are placed, any AI will show up at the old elevation unless I place this copy in this one location -- scenery\world\scenery.

The defacto location for AFCADs is Addon Scenery\scenery. This is because an AFCAD was originally a stand-alone file to add parking spaces etc, and didn't warrant it's own scenery folder system. However since my AFCADs tend to be inextricably tied to the layout of the addon airport, I'm more inclined these days to place them within the airport scenery folder. Either way works.
This also stops the AFCAD file being accidentally over-written by another scenery. My AFCADs normally define the underlying structure of an airport, so replacing them with other random AFCADs would completely muck up the airport.
If another scenery installed an AFCAD in addon scenery\scenery you would have problems, which you would have to sort out, but you wouldn't lose the original AFCAD because its located elsewhere.

I think the untextured buildings you are seeing at Taieri were always that way, that's the Fisher & Paykel plant and is basically just a bunch of evil-looking grey featureless buildings anyway.
They will be replaced with autogen in the FS2004 version.

I'm really looking foward to your fix up of Taieri for the 20m. Then I'll be really spoilt with Dunedin V3 and the new photoreal and a new Taieri will be the icing!
Can't wait for the GNZLAP to go with too! FSX is a long way away for me! I can't even see it from here!

Thanks for explaining all that Robin, much appreciated!

As for Duneden airport (NZDN), does anyone know of a really good version of it that works well with the photoreal scenery?

The current one of mine sits a few metres off the photoreal runway texture, and has lots of annoying fake green 'afcad grass' around it <_<

I don't know of anything that is an advancement of the fake grass just yet. Snowman was very helpful to me with my Taieri, (20m) and while it still has the Astroturf it is a vast improvement on what I had before and I can actually land and take off from Taieri. I used to have to take off from Momona (NZDN) and fly over due to problems with the old Godzone and 20m together. Of course that's knowing full well that the Godzone Taieri was not meant for FS9. It will be great to one day have a real one as it has historical significance as being the first aero club in NZ although the airfeild was in a different place over by the beach more.
I also think that people who learn to fly down here are blessed with great scenery and close proximity to mountains and get to learn alpine flying and in conditions you don't get in the north island.
A few pilots venture down from the north to find themselves in a wee spot of bother due to a lack of respect for Mother Nature. Updraughts and downdraughts that can be 100's of feet at once. You have to have a special endorsement on your licence to be able to fly in to Milford Sound for instance and that's not the only place you need one. So using real weather when you're down this way is highly recommended by me anyway. I use it everywhere as I have broadband so aren't ever tying up the phone.

Please excuse my ignorance, but my Taieri looks similar to trolly's, where can i get the Taieri scenery which features the old NAC hangar?
Can't wait to see a photoreal Dunedin Intl Airport released (hint?!) ;)
I agree with Codge, the Otago region as a whole is a great place to fly, so much variety, 2 Intl airports (ZQN DUD) lots of smaller fields (Alexandra, Balclutha Oamaru etc)....so many choices, so much variety in terrain!

Downloaded the new Dunedin Scenery and noticed on a approach to Taieri a lot of blackened hills to the west. Is that a fault in the photo real textures?

Bump!

I reinstalled the scenery and still the same blackened hills appear to the west of Taieri :(

Anyone else seeing this?

next time I am in the area will take my camera

I assume you have had no other reports then? So this might be a system or setup related problem even after reinstalling the package?

I had a small "hole" which was a corrupt file, and went away after a reinstall.
Great scenery.

Well I be doing a reinstall of the scenery eventually B) Downloaded one of those fangled scenery proggys that afterwards corrupted my FS installation. None repairable so reinstall time a excuse for a clean out.
