Hi Robin

I,m a little stuck

As you have said Geotiff aerial is easy but to create FSX water class I,m a little stuck

I am fairly sure I can use Global mapper to create the water class mask and export it as Geotiff

But where I'm confused is colors to use and export format plus the inf

What I think is right is this (please correct me) Black is water white is land?
export 8 bit greyscale or 24 bit?

Do you make the Aerial Photo and waterclass all in one inf file or are they seperate with there own bgl"s

I simply want to get the FSX style sea in the Harbour and then once I have that move to the variations of waterclass if I can

Sorry if I ask alot of questions
I really appreciate any info you can help with

A quick look at the SDK shows that they've added an alpha channel to the TIF image to mask this water. I have no idea how this would work with a GeoTIFF, or even if it possible to mask a GeoTIFF, but I'll need to figure this out very soon.
However, example 5 in the SDK is very promising:
"The land/water mask only controls the location of water effects (such as reflections, specular highlights and animated swells) and has no effect on the base color of the texture. This enables the color of the source image to be preserved while still applying the water effects to it."
Couple this with a blend channel, and you could conceivably retain the original water colour from your imagery, just turn it into proper FS water, and use a blend to merge it with the surrounding water.

So much to learn .Sure could do with a In depth tutorial manual with lots more examples on what can be achieved and how to's ay
It certainly sounds like the best of both worlds from what you are describing on the blending stuff
