'Hotlinking' is where another site includes a direct link to the images on my site. Sometimes this can be a post within a forum, such as here, and is a very good way to show an image, without having to host it yourself. Normally I encourage hotlinking, but lately there's been a huge increase in 'pirate' sites not only stealing my scenery, but stealing my bandwidth by hotlinking to my images to promote their thievery.

To prevent this, the Windowlight site now uses a 'white-list' for hotlinking. If you want to include Windowlight images on your own site, or link to them in a forum, and your image does not appear, then please get in touch with me and I'll add the site to the white-list.

Just a quick question ... any reason why (dialup) download speeds for the Windowlight site are so ... abysmal? Am attempting to d/l Takitimu and averaging only 3.2kps; any other site (same time) and I average 5.3kps.

The second problem is I keep on being dropped. What should have been a simple overnight d/l has now taken 2 evenings of constant monitoring in order to pick up and resume after being bumped. And I still have another 32% to d/l tonight.

Enquiring minds an' all. TIA.

Sorry about that. None of the freeware is actually hosted on Windowlight, it is in fact on an Australian server. I'm aware that it isn't that satisfactory, and one day I'll replace the lost Avsim files.

Edited, as actually I don't know where the server is, come to think of it. It is donated, and I appreciate having it available, but there's a reason for the specialist file libraries, that's for sure.

By the way, Dorian, I just realised you live across the harbour here, just let me know what freeware you want and I'll stick it on the ferry...

Hi Robin,

Hey, no problems; just wondering, that's all smile.gif

Takitimu is the last freeware download on my list; and, as it's about 70% done, will "soldier on" (and it really doesn't interfer too much with watching Babylon 5, Season 5). Thanks for the very kind offer though.
