You can purchase 'Southern Lakes Adventure: Wanaka & Tekapo' by visiting the Godzone Online Store.

Wanaka and Tekapo are both southern lake areas famous for their scenic attractions and as gateways to adventure. Wanaka is located in Otago, and Tekapo is a high-country lake in South Canterbury. Both are ideal locations to explore the amazing landscapes of the South Island of New Zealand.

Warbirds Over Wanaka, New Zealand's largest airshow, is reproduced as a free-form FSX Mission -- choose your warbird or other aircraft, and wow the crowds at WoW! (Airshow scenery requires Acceleration.)
Features:

  • Photo scenery of the Wanaka and Lake Tekapo areas;
  • Photo-accurate Wanaka and Tekapo airports;
  • FSX missions to help you explore the included areas;
  • Single player and multi player racing!

The Missions:

'Tekapo Wedding': pick up the bride and deliver her to the church, discovering Tekapo along the way;

Mission 'Aoraki' is a sightseeing flight around Mt Cook, based on the Air Safaris 'Grand Traverse';*

Some of the included missions, and the Warbirds Over Wanaka airshow, require 'FSX Acceleration'.

Includes repaints of FSX aircraft supplied by ARNZ-X.

BONUS: includes Nigel Booth's freeware FSX RNZAF Strikemaster BAC 167 and FSX RNZN Kaman SH-2G Seasprite.

This installation is a bit more complicated than normal, so you will need to read the on-disc manual. If you like, while you are waiting for the scenery to arrive in the mail, you can download the manual here.

*although the Aoraki mission begins and end in the Tekapo photo scenery, this does not include a photoreal depiction of Aoraki.

FAQ:

Do I have to read the manual?
This installation is a little more complex than normal, so you really should read the on-disc manual before installing. For those who feel confident enough to install the scenery and missions without reading the manual, you can try, the files on the disc (or in the downloaded ZIP file) and fairly easy to follow, but there is one step which is not apparent from the CD contents -- please read page 7 of the on-disc manual to install the Air Safaris repaint required for the 'Aoraki' mission.

How come I can crash the helicopter in the Wedding mission, even though I have crash detection turned off?
This is intentional, and is there as an added challenge, otherwise the mission is just too easy, as you could just complete the mission by crashing-landing on each of the helipads.

In the Tekapo Wedding mission, how come nothing seems to happen when I land on one of the helipads?
The 'trigger' for each of the landings is defined by an actual landing within a rectangular area. It is possible to land outside this area, then 'hop' onto the pad, but I don't think that this is classed as landing a helicopter in FSX-- in the same way that taxiing an aircraft is not classed as a landing. You may need to take off again, do a little flight so that FSX actually knows that you have taken off, then retry the landing on the helipad.

This is more common with the Military Camp landing site -- it is possible to get quite close to the landing pad, but landing downhill from the pad may actually put you below the invisible landing trigger box! Landing directly on the landing pad should work every time.

Isn't there meant to be an airshow when I start at Wanaka Airport?
The Warbirds Over Wanaka Airshow scenery only appears within the Wanaka Airshow Mission. Visiting Wanaka outside the mission will display the custom airport only.

On which days of the year does the airshow appear at Wanaka?
Unlike the FS2004 version of Real NZ Wanaka, the airshow is included as a mission, rather than conditionally designed to display on certain days.

Oops, I chose the wrong mesh setting when I installed Southern Lakes Adventure.
A 'default' install of Southern Lakes Adventure includes a file called 'For75mesh.BGL' in the folder 'RealNZtekapo\Scenery'. This scenery file simply flattens the area around the Mt John Observatory, to overcome some of the anomalies found when using a low-resolution mesh. Ideally, if you have the 20 metre mesh installed, you don't want this flatten, as the 20 metre mesh defines the top of the hill quite realistically. So if you don't have the 20 metre mesh, then it may be better if the mesh didn't define this area.

If you click on the selection 'Have20metremesh' when you install the scenery, all the installer does is to rename this file to 'For75mesh.BGL.bak' -- in other words, it adds a .bak extension which effectively disables it.

If you want to enable this flatten (that is, if you don't have the 20 metre mesh installed) then simply rename the .BGL file to remove the '.bak' extension. If you want to disable it (that is, you have the 20 metre mesh installed, and want to get rid of the flatten), then add the '.bak' extension to the file name.

There are trees on the course in the Extra 300 races!
Because the scenery and the racing missions were developed independently, the trees were a late addition to the scenery, and there was not time to have the race course changed. However I have altered the trees to only appear with a high Graphics Complexity setting, so setting the Graphics Complexity to less than Normal will remove the trees from the course.

Where do I find the upgrade offers from the old store?
They are still available, but they work slight differently than before.

In the old store, you could select an upgrade as an option with qualifying products. In the new store, upgrades are handled as separate products. To view the available upgrades, select the 'Upgrades' category in the left column. Each qualifying product also has a link to the corresponding upgrade product.

You can now save a bit more on upgrades by selecting the download option.
