Sunday 14th September 2008 - Points Race: Auckland

During the month of September the SNO events will be points races with winners being declared each week and an overall winner for all 4 weeks.

The following rules apply to all events with the weekly winner being determined as the person accumulating the most points during each evening and the overall winner being the pilot with the highest accumulated value over the month.

Points Awarded
• Flight Completed: 1pt / minute of scheduled flight time
• If Flight Completed More Than 5 minutes past Scheduled Time: -1 pt / minute later than scheduled time
• If Flight is not your first points-earning flight of the evening: +10pts
• Flight Booked by 6:30pm the night of event: +10pts

The points gained are based on the gate to gate times for the flight. Upon completing the flight you are awarded one point for every minute of scheduled flight time.
If your actual flight time is more than five minutes longer than the scheduled flight time, a point is deducted for every minute you are late.

Bonus points can be gained by pre-booking your flight or operating multiple flights in the course of the same event. If your flight is booked on vroute prior to 6:30 pm on the evening of the event then an additional 10 points will be awarded. If you have already completed a point-earning flight during the event, each subsequent flight will earn an additional 10 points.

Example: Auckland to Christchurch
Scheduled Flight Time: 1h20m => 80m => 80 flight time pts
• If your flight takes 1h25m: 80pts = 80pts
• If your flight takes 1h26m: 80pts - 6pts = 74pts
• If your flight takes 1h19m: 80pts = 80pts (no bonus for being early)
• If your flight is pre-booked, is your second flight of the night, takes 1h25m: 80pts + 10pts + 10pts = 100pts

The flights must be started and completed within the SNO time frame ie: 7:00 pm to 11:30 pm.

Each week will be based from a single airport. September's airports will be Hamilton, Auckland, Wellington and then Christchurch. Only flights to and from the evening's respective airport will be awarded points.

A list of the flights available and their scheduled flight time will be published before each round.

Pilots
In order for your times to be recorded you will need to request push back and advise when you are at the gate. Your time will start when you receive your push and start approval and will end when the controller acknowledges your shutdown. The controllers will record your call sign, time and location so I can determine your points.

The standard routes between each airport must be flown. These can be found below and at the VATNZ Airspace Reference site by clicking on the "Standard Route Clearances" link in the charts section for the airport you are departing.

Obviously, no accelerated time rates are permitted at any point during the event.

All proper flight procedures must be followed and all ATC instructions complied with in order for your flight to be eligible for points.

Flights must start and finish at the correct domestic passenger terminal area within the airport.

ATC
To monitor this, controllers need to log the actual push back and start times and the times at the gate for each flight. At the end of the evening please email this info to me at pilotops@vatnz.net for collation.
