I wan tot be ATC.
I have applied for a promotion to Student ATC but haven't heard back.
What happens when I get promoted? Can I go and straight away connect and do Wellington Tower?
Can I do that anyway say tonight if I wanted to?
I have the software.

You have to be a registered VATSIM and VATNZ member, do around 15 hours of observing on VRC or ASRC (most NZ controllers use VRC), and pass a practical controllers test in a special private session with an examiner.

Download VRC and start observing, learn the program, talk to people about controlling, make some controlling friends. Also, join VATNZ and the VATNZ forums and make a few posts there about it, you'll get a reasonably quick answer there.

VATNZ had their window of operertunity with me, gone now thow, I asked for a "promoation" to S1 but despite my hundreds of hours at IVAO I was told I need to waste about 40 hours of my time whatching other controlers rather strange methods of controling, thats if there were any to observe.. all I could see was a scope of lots of traffic and no atc, seems a bit stopid to me. The whole observing thing is ridiculous, what good is 50 hours observing going to do? Maby 5 hours yeah good, 50 no. Think how much you could learn spending even 50 hours doing ground somewhere or delivery...

Come to IVAO kelburn, we are much more welcomeing and will have you up and running do atc within an hour.

sounds good but how much traffic do you usually have on IVAO and how do you figure out who's online and can you use VRC?

Hey Kelburn,

We are working on our online activity at IVAO NZ. I try to be online as much as possible, and youl often see a few others. Theres not alot of us, but when we do get a few together its great. Come fly here, and more traffic, more atc. Start a good cycle maby Kelburn.

You can't use VRC, we use IVAC in IVAO. A simple program to download, and then you just download Teamspeak a voice client, really easy to use and thats all you need for controling.

To see whos online you can download a program called IVAE "the eye of IVAO", its way better than servinfo, great 3d map showing the whole world. Its really great.

Not picking sides, but I've controlled and flown on both, here's my analysis of each

IVAO:
Easier to get started
Easier program to learn to use
Not nearly as much traffic (like, half as much or less)
Sometimes not as realistic as VATSIM
Slower server viewer with more features

VATSIM:
Harder to get started
Slightly more difficult program to learn to use
More powerful controller program
They don't "unleash you" on the VATSIM pilot public until you're a good enough student
Lots of traffic
Very fast server viewer (so ya can see who's online) with slightly fewer features
More active forums

Now I can't log into Software development and download the ATC client etc. When I use my correct password ad ID number it says wrong password and when I click password reminder and put in my ID number it says I don't exist even though I can log onto the main IVAO website

Did you sign up on www.ivao.aero or www.ivao.org ?
If your ID is 29xxxx then you signed up on www.ivao.org, but you should have signed up on www.ivao.aero which would give you an ID 24xxxx.

It's a long story, but a few years back, Ivao.org changed over to Ivao.aero, but many links haven't updated yet

If you did sign up on the correct site, then check that you are using the web password, not the IVAN password

A quick note on that one Brock. You can also use Dolomynum or ServInfo with IVAO, as well as IvAe.
