This week we will be taking an overseas party to their conference in Queenstown. They have flown in from Auckland and have booked the entire Mount Cook Airline Maule fleet for a 3 hour scenic flight to Queenstown. We will be departing Christchurch flying over head Ashburton (NZAS) Aerodrome following a series of waypoints, up Lake Pukaki and into Mount Cook (NZMC). We will stop for about 5 minutes to allow a stretch of legs, a top up of fuel if needed and donning of snow gear and then we will fly up the Glacier, and make a famous glacier landing with a 10-15 min stop. We will continue around Mount Cook and back down Lake Pukaki towards Omarama via Lake Benmore. From there we'll be winding through the mountains through to Wanaka (NZWF) where again we will have a quick stop for our visitors to view the various warbirds. After which we will fly past the ski field of Cardrona over the Crown Range and into Queenstown.
Total time CH-QN not expected to exceed 3 hours.

AIRCRAFT

The aircraft in use for this flight is the Maule Orion, which will be ideal for our glacier landing and with big windows, they provide a good trip. Jon has painted two different liveries that may be used for the Maule. They are both Mount Cook Airline ones which can be downloaded from the link below the pictures.

SCENERY

It is recommended that you download and install Peter Lohr's fantastic Queenstown and Mount Cook Airport sceneries. These were designed in FS9, but work well in FSX provided you have NO mesh installed. The total downloads are 15mb, and well worth it. Both are available through his SDNZ site (here). http://www.nzscenery.reversethrust.net/index.htm

FLIGHT PLAN

Please download and Install the VFR flight plan from this link (Right Click and 'Save Target As') so that we can load this into the flight planner in FSX and therefore follow the same route. All the waypoints will then show up on the GPS.

Well that's about it, any questions post em here or PM myself.

See ya on everyone Friday!! :)

Ah, good ol' South Island High Country, will be a great flight!

On approach to Queenstown, expect a visual approach over the Crown Range, then depending on the active runway, circling around the basin and over Lake Hayes to land (RWY23) or crossing over the airport and circling over Lake Wakatipu to land (RWY5).

yep i have problems with both of those sceneries

The road leading into mount cook airport flashes from yellow- to dirt to white etc. Also, you can see the runway through the hills.

If you have crash detection on, you wont be able to start at, or look at Queenstown.

Maybe robin could shed some light? (perhaps suggest some bgls that could be turned off??)

I'm not going to install that Queenstown because I don't want to give up my mesh- else the Remarkables look, well, ordinary

The Flightplan is now avaliable for download from the link on the post. ;)

Also Just some information on ATC:
CH Departure procedures will be something like this:

You: "CH Tower, [Callsign] at apron, ready for departure to Mount Cook, 4 POB, Information Alpha recieved"

CH Twr: "[Callsign] Information Alpha confirmed, Cleared VFR to Mountcook at 1500ft or below, expect 8500ft, Squawk 1201"

You: "Cleared to Mountcook 1500ft or below expecting 8500ft, Squawk 1201[Callsign]"

CH Twr: "[Callsign] Read back correct, Taxi to Runway 12, via taxiway X, Y, Z when ready"

You: "Taxi to runway 12, via taxiway X, Y, Z, [Callsign]"

Nik will give ATC in the CH airspace, upon leaving he will hand you over to CH Information on the frequency as stated (119.100). All that is needed is a routine position reports so CH Info can give Traffic information.

Nearing QN Airspace you will need to inform CH Info that you'll be changing to QN Tower. Before entering Controlled Airspace, contact QN tower for instructions. Its easy to identify QN airspace as we will be on GPS's. :)

If you have any questions, then just give me or ZK-TJL a PM and we'll be happy to help :)

Yep thats the idea, to go with a fully VFR flight :)

POB would be 4 as we have a full load. The one I used was just for an example.

The mesh is cool to use, but not if you have the scenry installed. Im not quite sure why its not working, although Ill let you know as soon as I have a fix :)

It is recommended that you print out the NOTAM and the ATC clearances if you are not too comfortable on the radio just yet. This will make for a more relaxed flight for all :)
