Here's an invitation to join our informal group VFR flight on the evening of 26 June 2022 (Sunday) starting at 7.30pm (NZDT).

Continuing on from our last flight in the South Island, we will be flying around the Mount Cook (NZMC) area.

Leaving MZMC we will fly and land at Mueller Hut. Then onto Plateau Hut, and then Tasman Glacier. Then a short flight over to a slope near Kelman Hut.
Then a flight back to land at GlenTanner (NZGT) to look at the sheep. Then back up Tasman Valley to land at Tasman Saddle. Then returning to NZMC via the Godley River Valley.

As a challenge, flyers will be asked to land at, at least 10 different skifields/slopes. Also, be on the lookout for any static aircraft or helicopters at the ski fields.

Should take about 1.5 hours. This definitely suits a default ski plane like the Cessna 172, X-Cub or Pilatus Pc-6.
The new Mount Cook scenery by NZA is definitely recommended, but not mandatory.

Flying will be in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
Server is South East Asia.
Time set is 1200 hours (noon NZT).
Weather is optional.
No flight plan, just pure VFR. I would recommend that POI is set to on, so that you can find some of the landmarks. See the image below.

Using Discord 'Long White Cloud' Server for voice traffic. Please try and have voice available. It makes its easier for everyone to know what's going on.

See you there, Dave (ZKDWF)

Hoping to make this. Suggest the default ski PC-6 for all to be consistent with each other.

Hi Swaggyb, be great to have you onboard. I'll try to remember to send a Discord invite this evening after work, if I can. Or one of the other guys might beat me to it. Not sure on re-paints but some of the guys here tend to be into that kind of thing and hopefully they'll help out.

The only Mt Cook repaint i have seen is for the Milviz Porter and not the default one. I'm going to try the Milviz one on Sunday but will revert back to the default if it doesn't show up correctly.

Gee Whizz, I 'forgot' about this - for some reason thought it was next weekend.
Don't worry, there is still time for me to forget again before take off!

Beautiful day down here in Christchurch and I just logged another 1.1 in the Karatoo on a flight from NZRT to Motunau Island and back with my little fella keeping me company (he tried the controls once and then decided 'nope'!).

Hopefully will remember and will 'see' some of you tonight! :)

Good fun flying on Sunday night. Not entirely flying by the rules, more by the seat of our pants.

Didn't actually make it all the round, as the team tried out some challenges such as landing on Mount Cook itself. Jeff found a flag on top of it.
Finding the ski field landing sites, were also a challenge.

For most of us it was our first time in a Pilatus PC6 Porter, and also trying to learn to land with skis.

Tried out dunking our wheels in the lake water, failing once again.

We eventually ended up at Glentanner.

Here's some pics:
