FSX multi player meets

For everything about online flying around New Zealand

Postby ZK-TJL » Fri Feb 23, 2007 10:20 am

Hi Team.

Recently Jon and I put togeather the World Tour of New Zealand.........It was great fun. The tour slowly built up interest and player numbers until it ended not long ago. This tour was organised through text messeges with no real set time being planned.

I think it would be a good idea to try and get a larger, more organised, regular multiplayer time for FSX. Would be great if we could get a group of New Zealand flight simmers on the same server, A NZFF server.

The server could run ATC, free flight, tours, joint cockpit, aerobatics, formation flying, helicopter flights or whatever.......at this point I think what type of flying is not so important as getting a good number of regular NZ flight simmers attending.

Already there is a growing group of New Zealand FSX simmers, this idea could help organise things better.

Who's keen for this idea??? Maybe a regular Weekly meet on Sunday nights would work???

Any thoughts??? >nzflag<

Good point there Jon :D ........Some of us won't always be able to make it.......No biggy.......We'll just keep the attendance thing very laid back......No compulsory attendance.........it just ain't realistic for some of us. Unless some one wants to take a roll??????????? (kidding)

'David'-----"Here"
'Nik'------"Here"
'Jon'------"Here"--------'Jon you were late last week, now this is your final warning!'

you just need to sign up for gamespy if you haven't already- click on multiplayer at the main FSX menu and follow the instructions
then login, look for the NZFF server under 'free flight' and join in the fun

I don't play it either, thats why I love FSX multi so much, simple as, ATC if a tower guy is keen, shared cockpit etc.

I think sunday night works best for most people. As I understand it IVAO and VATSIM don't work with FSX yet??? FSX multi player is simple and easy to get going...I think sunday is the winner.........as for time maybe around 7pm??? Does Sunday night work guys????

Its a 'push to talk' type set up. Hold down caps lock to talk, release caps to listen. When in shared cockpit it's a 'hot mic' between the two pilots controlling the aircraft, again caps lock to transmit with other people. You may need to tune your radio to specific freqs on some servers........other servers operate using open freq, where everyone can communicate with everyone regardless of what their radio is tuned to.

As of yet there is no offical server......just a casual server that Jon has been running which he has often called NZFF. If someone was keen to operate a full time server then that would be great.

As the number of players grow we will need to start using the specific freqs, this will allow for the increased radio traffic, various controllers at airports and also allow for a more social setting as different aircraft will be able to have there own chatter without interfering with other players.

I've been looking into this and spent alot of time recently at an extremly busy server based at LAX, I have spoken with the orgainiser of this server at length about what it takes to run a good busy server and he had some interesting thoughts that I won't get into right now. This server was amazing! but it would be far and away better if we could duplicate it right here in NZ>nzflag<

I'd like some more feedback on what night of the week would work best. Current thinking is for Sunday nights around 7pm...........any more thoughts on this???? :)

Just as a side note...........we could always have more than one server and more than 1 time......but at this stage I think its best to concentrate on 1 and get it really fired up. >nzflag< :plane:

sundays are good, but if everyone is on IVAO or VATSIM at the same time, then we won't get the numbers to make an awesome server
any night's fine with me, but i prefer an 8pm start as i have dinner and dishes to do before then

i would be there i dont have vatsim or any sim. So when you say a full time server does it run when ur computer is of? like you have a host somewhere like people have on gaming servers.

It's my understanding that VATSIM and IVAO don't run on FSX????? (can someone please inform me if i'm wrong here). If thats correct then its the FS9 guys that will be spending their time on VATSIM and IVAO, so if there is any drop off it should be rather small, limited only to those who still dabble in FS9.

while 7pm is abit early for some of us we would make the server open to people joining in at any time through out the meet. So joining in at 8pm wouldn't be a problem (I know that I won't always be able 'to be there on time'.

The day and start time will really come down to the person who actually hosts the server , but at this point getting ideas for times is a good place to start.

We will need people with broad band to put their hands up to host, As I'm on a dial up connection I can't run a session with more than 3 players (crashes  )
