Multiplayer Flight Idea

An idea for the next multiplayer flight (the previous was cancelled due to a lack of turnout, and one of the hosts couldn't make it).

I was reading up (in the FSX learning center) on FSX's multiplayer ATC capabilities, and briefly tried manning the ATC system in a session (by myself) just to see how it works.
So....I was thinking that IF there is another multiplayer flight, we could have at least a couple people man a departure and destination airport (or have someone switch from dep to dest) and provide some basic ATC services on the flight. It would really be advantageous if the weather was poor as well.

An interest in expanding this idea further?

That is very true, normally scheduled a time and I was in , lack off turnout is currently across the board at NZFF .. possible are not shown so something I have to bring up with admin

We do have one who would love to control an aircraft carrier , done this myself as ATC/ CAG .. you still need to get the people on board and currently NZFF is a bit stale.

Basically I think all this requires a build again in interest before even looking at this , since the change over the drop in people I see is around the 80/90% mark , so I guess its simply time to see and let it grow again ....

Something i would like to try... had a quick go once with Ian to see how it all worked. Would be keen to try with a few people, just to get a handle on it before going in the deep end!

I have an aircraft carrier running on autopilot following a flightplan. It works in an MP on my own LAN. Once Ian gets on top of his artwork we are going to test it in a WAN MP.

Yes, I like this idea. Certainly worth trying out as I think it will add an extra degree of realism

I'll tell you what we used to do, years ago, and was great fun on FS 2004 Multiplayer, (FS 2002 and FS 2004 was always easy to connect to Multiplayer with a single click IP address), was arrange week-end guided tours of selected places for all those who were not familiar with the places!
We toured all around the borders of the UK, Europe, Italy, New Zealand, Australia, South America, North America, and Alaska, etc...
All inter-communication was always carried out using the "Chat Window".
It was great fun, and highly educational!

When Multiplayer was popular, I even used to take Americans on guided tours around the American West!
After 15+ years of daily exploration, I now know more about California and the West than the folks who actually live there!.... ....!

How about a guided tour of South Island for Folks who live in the North island and have never seen it, and vice-versa? ....:wink2: ...!

Simple, non-complicated Tours always suited my form of Multiplayer activity, using small, simple, Piston Props, Cessna, etc,... :) ...!

An agreed time and place, together with an IP Address, was all that was required, and then just wait for folks to turn up for the tour!

Its always a shame that FSX became "complicated" for Multiplayer connection (Gamespy), and I suspect put many folks off, including the old FS 2002 and FS 2004 Multiplayer enthusiasts!

I just use the "FS Host" Servers, and select a vacant IP address from the long list, using "FSHost Client".

Instant connection!

Multiplayer is a very lonely place now...compared to what it was years ago!

I'm presently taking myself on a guided tour up "Owen's Valley" in California....Cowboy Film Country!
Both in the air (Cessna 150)...and on the ground (Harley Davidson)...>>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hqB4UC-6A4

Well, "GameSpy" was hardly the best choice of name...Ian and I will be doing some testing tomorrow morning.

All we really need for instant connection to Multiplayer, is a time, a place....

...and a PUBLISHED IP Address!

Sorted!

Paul.... :D ...!

That's the point, Paul. I am willing to publish my IP to some trusted person, to get an MP under way, but I am damned sure that IP is not to be made available to any waif or stray who thinks it is funny to do harm to a total stranger just because they find themselves in a position to do that.

The advantage, when using a pre-selected, published, "FS Host IP address", was that it was not personal to the individual Player(s).

Its only disadvantage, being published, was that some annoying youngsters used to turn up an buzz the other members of the group...
...but to cure that, a "Password" could be provided to selected Players!

An IP Address...and a Password!

Paul....off on a Solo Tour to Sainsbury's now, on my Bike, for some goodies to eat!... :D ....!

Prity close, had a mate who flew for the 'Barnstormers' out Wigram , he also rode a Fireblade, and his day job was flying the Stearman .

One thing we have done in the past is rather than publicly post the host's IP somewhere, we'll verbally read out the numbers over Teamspeak moments before the flight.

I'm open to multiple ideas and whatever would end up being the most popular.

That is the safe way to do it via Team Speak or PM, Mike and I just finished a MP test and it was just as simple as that.

A moment in History :D
Me, me, and Ian in an MP. Ian has just landed on the carrier (third plane from the bow) which is running on autopilot from one of my computers, while I fly another Corsair on my main computer.
