Multiplay AI Traffic

For everything about online flying around New Zealand

Just sent this idea to Microsoft...but it was VERY hard to find a contact email address. In the end, I submitted it via a standard feedback form:

If Microsoft are developing a new Flight Simulator, may I suggest that it would be possible to have Artificial Intelligent (AI) aircraft running whilst the user is on multiplay.

May I further suggest that these AI aircraft are running from an international server, (e.g. from a Microsoft game server). Users could then connect to this server, (independant of a normal peer-to-peer multiplay connection), enabling them to have access to a realistic, 'filled-sky' at any time. A bit like connecting to VATSIM but without the rules and regulations.

This would mean two server ports from the Flight Sim software: one to connect to a regular multiplay server...and the other specifically for an AI Server.

The user could choose the level, (percentage), of AI traffic...and, possibly, a choice of low-poly or high resolution aircraft.

This wouldn't replace any on-board or custom AI traffic, (which, of course, wouldn't be running if connected to an external server).

Furthermore, AI Traffic could have optional selections of; helicopters, ships, vehicles...and, maybe, people/animals which appear at certain places depending on time of day/season.

Wouldn't it be nice, though.....

Hey Goff. Nice idea. I wonder tho if it wouldn't be easier to distribute flight plans and AI models
from a central server via some sort of pull or sync menu item that you might do periodically?

Not sure if what you describe would be feasible in real time, ie having live skins and aircraft
positions streaming to you as aircraft come in range. I know thats kinda how VATSIM works, but
you still need local models from SB or FSINN right and the aircraft density is way lower, realistic
live AI traffic would get pretty laggy dont you reckon?

BTW, have you heard a rumor or something that they are forming a new group for Sim
development or are you just hoping (like we all are I guess) that they will?
