SB4 real bloody issues

For everything about online flying around New Zealand

Hey Gents,

I have fs2004 and (was) using SB4 about 2 weeks ago with no troubles at all. All of a sudden I go to jump on and do some much needed simming, do the usual thing using VROUTE to log my flights and get the correct route. Load my FS2004 go up to the top bar and load SB4 it starts to load but stops on the screen saying fetching server info...and it just freezes on that! I am running VISTA with NORTONS 360 and i am aware of these causing some issues...but the thing I cant work out is that I played it about 2 weeks ago fine!!

Please oh please help me to get this bad-boi up and running again!!

Thanks thumbup1.gif

Might be easier to post up on the VATNZ forums for information on those, there aren't many VATSIM characters on here, unless you want to PM someone like Mark Richards or Matthew. winkyy.gif

Bear in mind that Squawkbox 4 is in public beta - there are bugs in the software - beta tests are about reporting those bugs so that they can be fixed.

There are known issues related to using Squawkbox with Antivirus and Firewall software packages.

I suggest you post on the VATNZ Forum, look at the official Squawkbox forum, or take a look at the Squawkbox sub-forum on VATSIM Forums.

Specifically, this thread on VATSIM Forums looks like it may have the answer;
If that doesn't work, or you would rather find a permanent solution, try allowing the TCP and UDP ports that Squawkbox uses - these should be listed in the Squawkbox manual.

EDIT: I just did a search of the manual.
Set up Norton to unblock the ports mentioned in the following quote;

Squawkbox Manual wrote:For connecting outside your local network, SquawkBox uses TCP port 6809 and UDP port 3290 for outgoing connections only. SquawkBox does not accept any incoming connections. The DirectPlay system used by Microsoft Flight Simulator for multiplayer functionality uses a number of network ports, but those are only used internally for communication between Flight Simulator and SquawkBox.

While we're on this topic, if anyone else has any issues with VATSIM software that they would like other members to offer advice on, please feel free to ask winkyy.gif We're here to help thumbup1.gif

Hope that helps,

Matthew

Hi mate,

Still having trouble with SB4 I decided to try on my old laptop( which has no anti-virus and no firewall on) and once again it dosnt work it just freezes on the fetching server data and stays there!! Is there programs like fspassengers or fscopilot that can effect it? Or have a got a dud copy of SB4?

Thanks
