Sunday Night Ops for 20th April 2008 - VATNZ Supports VATPAC Rolling Thunder NZAA <--> YSNF <--> YSSY

This Sunday our SNO (Sunday Night Operations) is supporting our sister Oceania Division, VATPAC with their full weekend of ATC event "Rolling Thunder".

VATPAC controllers are getting together in Sydney and setting up a network of controllers in the same building from Friday night to Sunday night to provide an extensive ATC service throughout Australia. To show VATNZ's support, we are planning to fly from Auckland to Sydney via a stop at Norfolk Island and then arrive into Sydney's airspace in the last part of their Rolling Thunder event.

The anticipated sector time (block to block) is two hours to Norfolk Island and then about another three hours from Norfolk to Sydney, so this will mean getting away a little earlier than normal.

For pilots unable to fly for five hours, you are are invited to join the event in Norfolk Island about 19:00 NZST and fly the leg to SYD.

  • Departure Time: Sunday 20th April 2008 17:00 NZST (05:00UTC)
  • Flight Time: Leg 1 - 2 hrs, Leg 2 - 3 hrs.
  • Flight Plan Route:
NZAA / YSNF: AA G591 NF
YSNF / YSSY: NF B450 SY
  • Potential ATC Positions:
    NZAA_GND - Auckland Ground
    NZAA_TWR - Auckland Tower
    NZAA_APP - Auckland Control
    NZCH-A_CTR - Christchuch Control
    NZZC_FSS - Auckland Radio
If possible, also book your flight using vRoute - large numbers of bookings in vRoute attract additional traffic.
