Operation Deep Freeze 2007

For everything about online flying around New Zealand

Hi All,

After the great success of last year, the New Zealand Division is proud to bring back Operation Deep Freeze!

For those of you that don't know what Operation Deep Freeze is, we are doing this in conjunction with the real life Deep Freeze Operation, from NZCH (Christchurch) to NZWD (McMurdo, Antarctica). Every year, this route is travelled by people delivering supplies such as food, and medical equipments down to Antarctica.

This year, we are holding the event with four options:

i) Pilots depart NZCH from around 2000z on November 17th 2007, and fly down to NZWD, where they will be expected around five hours later. For this, we recommend flying either a Hercules, or a Galaxy, but feel free to fly whatever you want.
Flightplan: CH ANOPA A338 BYRD A338 NZWD. Distance is around 2100nm.

ii) Escort fighter planes (F16, F18 etc) will depart from NZCI at around 2030z, where they will fly to the waypoint ANOPA, where they will meet up with the plane they are to escort.

iii) A helo mission is being set up down at Antarctica. Teams of helos will depart from NZPG (Pegasus Field) at around 0000z, where they will fly around the Ross Ice Shelf to meet the inbound aircraft.

iv) Help with Air Traffic Control. We are looking for both civilian, and military ATC for the event from position ranging DEL to FSS.

The event has received offical clearance from the Special Ops Department, and you will be credited with one point towards the Special Ops award.

I finally got my stuff together and was able to get airborne about 45 minutes after the first wave( Had cargo door problem with the KC10). Was my first real attempt at multi player level. Very interesting. Unfortunitly Nana and Granddad turned up with about 950mls to run so could not finish. (Funny how some people do not understand that it takes time). Will have to wait till neat year to give another go. Thaks to Matt and his team for their great effort and time. Cheers Adrian.

Not to worry Adrian, many thanks for participating anyway, and hope to catch you again soon at our next event smile.gif

In all, we had 23 movements out of Christchurch, 4 escort fighter jets, and 3 flying the helos mission. In addition to this, we had 7 controllers online, positions ranging from GND, to all 3 CTRs.

Couple of IvAe screenshots:

Oh, and the usual problems at Antarctica. Yes, both planes were actually on the ground laugh.gif
