The Dreaded Password

For everything about online flying around New Zealand

Postby Charl » Thu Apr 19, 2007 10:23 pm

OK I'm hoping there is an obvious fix, before I run off to my IT guy.
My computer is networked via a DSL Router (D-link DSL504G) to the internet.
All computers on the network have McAfee AV, and Windows firewall, runnng.
Here's the problem:
1. I cannot access password-protected online FSX sessions.
2. I cannot host ANY session

I can, however, join in any non-password session, and have flown online with Mexican and other interesting dudes in strange places.

Question: Does anybody know what the cause of this glitch might be??

Could it be your firewall that has some specific FSX settings in it?

Try putting the computer in DMZ. It is not as safe but as long it is only for a while. If it works in DMZ(i think that is what it is called( then it SHOULD be a port.

Erm, "Enter Password". And then: "Enter Password"

Nope, but I'm pretty sure it is a firewall issue of some sort. I think I also affect the server. Back when we tried the FS2004 multiplayer, no-one could get on while I was vainly trying to connect.

Say what??

DMZ is No firewall. with a firewall this is what it may look like

Your computer|big bad internet

In DMZ it would look like this

|your computer and big bad internet.

| is the firewall btw

so if you experiment by trying to join fsx friday night flights today in DMZ, see if that helps. If it does then it very likely to be a firewall port not opened.

Also do you have the latest firmware? I couldn't get my PS2 online until we got the latest firmware.

You may have a point about the firmware, thanks for that thought.
There is no chance whatsoever that I expose the network thus:

|your computer and big bad internet.

It's what the firewall is there for.

Yes but just to see if you can join with no protection. If you can join Friday flights in DMZ then find out what ports FSX uses

McAfee could be the problem, it has stopped many a legit application from working correctly before...

some programs automaticly block programs. Make fsx an exception. Don't know if this can be done on mcafee but it works on Norton

Well, if its running on other sessions, blocking shouldn't be the issue...
