Nice find! Delightfully quaint ("we've come a long way now we have 386 hertz chips,33 megahertz processors and vga graphics"/ "the very realistic graphics we have these days") and you have to wonder how today's sims will fare when we compare with what's available in 20 years time...

"if you were to take this and run in on an old 8088 machine, it would update the screen every five seconds."

Hmm, a simulator which requires the latest technology to work properly, what a concept!

What's one frame every 5 seconds, as a FPS rate?

0.20 !!

Imagine that lol

I'm not sure I want to, since I hate it when I get below 13fps.

Great find...
I forsook MS for a while some years back, and became an ace Janes F-15E Strike Eagle driver.
(As in, fly to the 500-page pilot's handbook)
Great memories and astonishing immersion.
The next YouTube clip after your link had played, was SE, and I took a look.
Mistake - some things, like 8036 computers, are best left to slightly faded memories.
But it's really only in the graphics department - in many ways flightsims have not moved on at all in 20 years.

For a long time, MSFS was strictly locked at 2 FPS, no more no less. That's why I'm a bit more forgiving of low frame rates, anything better than 2 is progress!

Cripes , i forgot , i had that Battle of Britain sim by Lucas arts , my favorite from the era was the original Micropose B17 Flying Fortress , you had to complete 25 missions bomb targets and shoot your way home again .
