Here's my first attempt (ever!) of recording a film in FSX. I tried FRAPS but it kept barfing on the 4Gb barrier, so got Playclaw as well - much better!

Please disregard my horrific take-off!!!

Ardmore Spit Display

Does anyone know any "magic" tips to stop Youtube turning the video into porridge? I presized my version to exactly 360p and it was still cr*p.

Thanks, Mike (& Ian) ... will try a re-code to mpeg4 ... and yes, it's the Realair spitty smile.gif

On another note. Is there a way of (easily) setting up a tower view camera that isn't located on the tower itself, but still tracks the aircraft? I'd like to try a "spectator" view position somewhere near the runway - and so I don't get any of the tower radio masts getting in the way.

What i do is fsrecorder the plane i want to view and then use something like BOB from orbx to go to where you want to take the shot ,this is a good time to playback as traffic, the recorded aircraft you did earlier.
hope you understand me .

RealAir really got that soundtrack working, gets a nice showing here...

Youtube lets you upload HD too, I tend to write the file to a 720 WMV like this one:
http://www.youtube.com/user/GNZLAP#p/u/14/ww3hsUHhiig
and then the viewer can choose what definition to use.

Movies are often easier to make when you have recorded them previously.
Recorder Module does this best, and also lets you choose different vantage points to shoot your movie from.

Congratulations on your first outing!

Yep - I record it in FSrecorder then "filmed" the playback. I've tried BOB (funny little devil, isn't he?) ... but if I use him to view from, can I get a view that's locked to the aircraft? Trying to pan/follow it around will be impossible!

@charl - thanks for that. My test recordings were initially only 416 x 304 (my window wasn't maxed out) .. so I'll try a maxed out view, recorded at 1600 x 1200 / 2 = 800 x 600. Isn't HD 720px *deep* though?

@Marty - yes - it was great fun doing it ... but all too easy to "lose" the airfield! Just don't have the same situational awareness in a sim.

UPDATE: I ferreted out how to do it. Basically, created a new camera in camera.cfg - and gave it some real co-ordinates. I can't remember, but FS9 allowed you to move the tower view in Map view/config. FSX won't allow it - even though the instructions in "Help" (mistakenly) tell you how. If anyone wants the code for this "Spectator camera", please shout and I'll post it here.

Here's my first ever HD film on Youtube!

This time it's a Spitfire display at Wanaka - from the (newly created) "spectator" viewpoint. Note the use of Marty's famous "cloaking device" part way through. It was hazy, but the video somehow lost the haze (and the Spitfire, laugh.gif).

The film is totally unedited. Another learning curve to look forward to!!

Pure luck!!

I have very twitchy/sticky toe brakes on my rudder pedals, so taking off in a straight line is nigh on impossible. I'm trying another display (from Woodbourne, this time) and am currently at take-off attempt no.36 sad.gif. Landings are a bit easier, as I can almost keep my feet off the rudders.

Anyway, here's a re-cut of the earlier Wanaka one ... from the "tower" this time (and better cropped):
