Hello
I bought MS Flight Simulator a few months ago. I have learnt a little about how to control an aircraft offline, but i still know very little about ATC and more complicated things.
I would be grateful if someone could teach me how things were done in the multiplayer.

Well... Where do you start.

Firstly there's many online multiplayer options such as IVAO, VATSIM or just plain IP address.

Many people set up a server so you can fly with other people directly over IP address or you can download programs such as Squawkbox which allow to connect to massive online servers such as Vatsim. You turn on the program which logs you on to Vatsim then automatically connects you to a server through FS. Then you use this program along with your aircraft and you can talk over microphone or text to people acting as Air Traffic Controllers. Lastly the program gets you to tell the program what type of aircraft and livery you are in. Then everyone who can see you sees you as that type of aircraft. (Actually quite confusing to explain).

It may vary between FS9 and FSX ... but in FSX at least, it's very simple ... but you appear to need to set up a Gamespy account first <???>. I had one anyway. After that, you just select a server (preferably with a low "ping") and off you go!!! You may need to check what the keys are to use for text emssages, but I use something like Teamspeak (or even Skype) to chat to other players.

Soem aircraft allow 2-player in the same cockpit (neat!!!). I think you just use CTRL-T to swap. You get a realistic "You have control/I have control" message. There are lots of areas where I think FSX is still very "clunky" but I must say I was impressed by multiplayer.

I got a gamespy account a while ago, but I dont know about how to interact with other players through the radios.

Hi Emanuel, there are a few popular ways to chat to each other when multiplaying. Here at NZFF when people get together to go for a multiplayer flight, they often make use of our Teamspeak Server, there is a short guide on how to connect to a server here (though our server has different details to enter into it

).

Have a look around and see what you can turn up. It all depends, different people use different ways to chat to each other.

Using the speak one built into FSX u would use Capslock key to push to talk ,but this would have to be active on the gamespy server you are using ,but teamspeak is alot nicer to chat through and its clear voice ...

This is a personal fav of mine. I like to fly everywhere but sometimes i like to check out Google Earth to find some interesting geography to fly around. This will instantly show all airports,ndbs,vors,vor/dme in the world. Can't praise it enough. If you have Google Earth, get this! With G.E weather can also let you know what weather you will be flying in.

Lastly the best place for advice on all your aviation questions.

dont worry about that one i found it a while ago, but thaught it needed payed membership, then later realised it didnt.
