Hi there,
This is the offical topic for for Forum Field '08/9 so this is were things will progress and were all the stuff will be announced.
First off, would anybody be intersted in being one of the official organisers? Please dont just put you hand up and say 'Yip I'll do it!!!' Without thinking about it, as some of you will know it is a serious position

.
If you want to be part of the 'Committee' (sounds kind of evil doesnt it

) tell us what you would like to do; wether or not you are a people person and any other helpful stuff
Dont worry if you dont want to be official you can all still help!!
Thanks
Nick

We will have to get a list of ac that would be compatible with both sims ,and get a server that will take both sims ,in the past people have had trouble getting on inspire and its ruin the event alittle so i would put thought into these parts ,scenery could be like paraX and 9 version or theres many other fields around that work still in both
/ive mention to you aready on TS about being a more causal event where we just fly in and just let a team or person do a performance and then just free flight in between them for everyone etc to keep it all moving ,could even have a theme like the Air Olympics ,like comp to climb rate to 10.000 -50.000 or decent and landings where we all just go for it having the same aircraft ,do rating on landings and time taken to pull up..
you will need a tower guy that would be pretty busy but wouldn't have to be to serious about people that dont know about calling or care for it
i can help out alittle if im needed ..

The air olympics i quite like that!!
So first things first would anybody be interested in selecting an airfield for us to use? or the aircraft? a good selection of helos, vintage and whatever.
Look 4rd to hearing from you

Ok, as for the selection of the plane, how about the simple little J-3 Cub (the FS9 default)? It works in FSX doesn't it?
For airport, I reckon a small download, easy on fps little grass strip or whatever, with a few buildings.
I also like the idea of being an ATC guy.
Edit: FSX has got that same Cub right? So are they usable together, for likes of the FSX guys using the FSX one and ditto for the FS9 users.

Just another thought.
As I fly multiplayer quiet frequently with kiwibarguy I experienced some problems when you have both fs9 and fsx players. The elevation mesh is not in sync, so sometimes Paul landed "below the ground" and I was floating from his view. I don't have a good understanding of this issue and don't know what would a resolution be for that. Anyway it can be annoying if we want to rate landings and stuff.
The cub sounds like a good idea, and it's relatively easy to handle.
Another thing is the weather which could give us different levels of difficulty. I mean for a start the "clear skies" zero weather would be the best, then we could all set the same wind/weather to have a bit of challenge as a level 2.

The Air Olympics sounds like a great idea we could have different aircraft categories and have like a final challenge for the aircraft that have placed first in all the heats like a show-down style lol.
Anyway guys have to get to work so keep up the great work I'll catch up with you all later.

This is due to the different default mesh resolutions for FS2004 and FSX. Default airports are never placed at the 'correct' elevation, they are placed at the default mesh elevation. That's why when you use a higher resolution mesh, airports become sunken or sit on a plateau. To fix this would require two things: use a similar mesh resolution (75m would make sense, as this is the default FSX resolution, and there are plenty of FS2004 meshes of this resolution available); and create or use an airport scenery with the elevation matched to this mesh.

Why dont we just use RealNZ NZPP 'cause it worked last time?
On the aircraft side of things we could use the ABsimulation RNZAF Herc and Orion (the one of the rnzaf website)
The Cub? Yea I like that idea
Any more suggestions?

Alright, these are my thoughts on the 'Air Olympics' idea:
1. We could have a panel of judges and compete with each other for 'Medals' eg. Silver for Crosswind Landing or whatever.
2. The 'winner(s)' of these medals can either further compete for a prize or go into the draw for a prize.
3. The prizes as such could be like the Monthly Screenshot Comp.

But that would mean alot of prizes!!
The Panel of Judges sounds like a good idea.
keep the ideas flowing I am now opening the applications for events so if there is an event you would like to see/takepart in post it here
Cheers

how about a how low can you go event, where you have to fly a commercail jet as low as you can with the gear up. and how about a shortest landing distance, in say a cessna 172, shortest take off distance in say a maule
just some ideas

Here's some ideas for some events:
-Best Three Point Landing
-Best handled emergency (Deliberately shut down an engine, a certain distance away from the airport at a ceratin height for each competitor. The person that handled the situation best/the person who survives will win)
-Best Aerobics
-Quickest climb to a certain altitude (if you stall you're Disqualified)
-Most Dangerous flight (you try and make your flight really dangerous and the pilot who keeps his plane from chrasing will win the gold medal)
