I am interested in learning about designing and developing for fsx and fs9. Could anybody suggest a good website or freeware program to start with?

I know it's not something you learn over night but would be keen to contribute since i have taken so much from others.

Since i have never done so before i would like to start with simple polygon construction. Any ideas???? :)

In terms of scenery design (Custom aerial textures etc) FSX is a lot easier to get 'into' than FS9...the SDK in FSX is a lot better than Fs9. Almost all of the tools youll need for FSX development are included in the SDK (Gmax, resample.exe, bglcomp.exe, tmfviewer.exe, Annotator.exe etc)

Step one is read the SDK documents....depending on prior knowledge there is probably a lot of new concepts to grasp. Second, set up Gmax....this can be a bit of a mission in itself. 3rd- Make a box in GMAX, texture it and try to get it to show in FS.....this can be a bit of a mission in itself. 4th- Make a more complex object in GMax and texture it.....this can be a bit of a mission in itself etc etc ;)

Good luck

I did a couple of articles on scenery design on my blog http://wetanest.freehostia.com/2007/04/fs2...ery-part-1.html and http://wetanest.freehostia.com/2007/04/fs2...-to-layers.html

The idea was to write as I learned so others could benefit from it, but I seem to recall I got a little distracted by the project I was working on at the time and blogging about it seemed less interesting!

Have a look anyway. It might help.
