I though being Friday we could chill and share some of our favourite Airports that you consider to be a challenge or just plain interesting.

Toncontin International Airport

I will start with a famous one. Toncontin is the true challenge for you who think you are the master of 757's. You have 1870 metres to land with mountains all around. Situated in Honduras, at an altitude of 1090 metres, she is classed as the most dangerous of all Airports. Try landing there yourself in bad weather in a 757 and you will see why she holds the title.

Check out the Wikipedia link, especially the landing video at the bottom.

and Brumlow top, a limited amount of ppl got to see that before it was taken offline to be fixed up.. These will only work in FS9

I wonder if my Cessna can get this high up?

Lukla, Nepal

If you are wanting to hike up Mt Everest in the near future here is where you will be landing. Lukla is way up in the mountains.

Mostly Twin otters and helicopters land up here on this uphill runway with a 2000ft cliff drop at the bottom.

Aerosoft has a great Lukla scenery available to buy (~US$24) from their website. winkyy.gif

Courchevel, France

If you have already seen 'Tomorrow never dies' then you will recognise it easily.

1722 ft above sea level with a vertical cliff at the end, can you do a Pierce Brosnan and survive a bit of plane freefalling.

As you can imagine, blizzards would be the challenge.

Just been reading about the closure of all international flights at Tocontin. It is amazing that more people weren't hurt on the 30th of May when an A320 ( due to bad weather conditions) overran the runway then dropped off the cliff to land just short of residential housing.

They have closed down all international flights which will mean harder times for the community that depends on the Airport for their livelihood. Also a good article on how they had actually proposed an extension to the runway back in the 60's but it never came to fruition.

Is this the end of Toncontin, the most dangerous international airport still around?

Erm.. How about St Barthelemy? Apparently there's a plane off the end there regularly.
