Goodbye my furry friend……

A real c##p day yesterday. Our dog, Baxter, had cruciate surgery a couple of weeks ago (the second one).
Things started going downhill 2 weeks ago. The leg was fine but he was lethargic and about 4 days ago he stopped eating.
He lived for food. Would eat until he popped, so something was seriously wrong. Off to the vets where they discovered he had a raging temperature (40.6), bloods normal, and was treated for a suspected infection with antibiotics. No change. Off to a referral clinic (cue the sound of cash registers) for a couple of days/nights observation. Choice of ultrasound or CT scan ($5000). Opted for ultrasound first.
To our unpleasant surprise we were told he had agressive and extensive cancer.
Back to the original vets to have him euthanised.
It’s like losing a family member. He was better than many people I know.
So here’s to my wonderful furry mate of the past 12 years.
Cheers Baxter.

It's a biggie alright.
Having been through this process once too many, we are currently without Kat or Dog, just goldfish.
Once the healing is done though, there are always the memories, forever.

Sad news, CowPoo!
I used to have Cats. many years ago.
Having spent most of my life (90+ years) living on my own, the thought of having a Dog for company crossed my mind, now and again, but the constant thought of having to care for them,
Vet's expenses, combined with walks in the wind, rain, and snow every day and collecting their droppings (depending on the Dog's size and, therefore, droppings size), have always put me off the thought!
One of my Lads has a Min-Pin (Miniature Pincher) which he leaves with me as he goes off to work, some days.
That little Dog takes a lot of my attention in all sorts of ways.... Barking at anything and everything, and threatening to eat the Postman/Postlady when they venture down the front garden path... :ph43r: ....
...and fertilising the grass in my back garden... :( ...!
I don't think that I would have the patience to own one now....
I just enjoy watching their various antics on YouTube, from the comfort of my Armchair!.... :D ...!
It's got to be devastating when they pass away after up to 13 years of company!

...but they are always much better/faithful than human female company... from previous experience!... :wink2: ... :wink2: ...!

Take care, all!

Paul... :UK: ...England.... ....!

That cracks me up Fozzer. I bet you are probably the most eligible Batchelor in the village.

Sorry for your loss CP ....I just caught up with this post now.
Both of our 15 year old plus moggys have left the circuit, we had them for so long.....we miss them both.
However their little frames now reside in little blue boxes , each with a small shrine type arrangement, and fresh flowers placed on their respective departure anniversaries...all managed by my partner.
Its odd, but sometimes if I'm home alone I'll catch a glimpse of one of them out of the corner of my eye ...maybe something remains, I would like to think so.

I'm sure Baxter had a great 12 years CP , at least until the last part.

Baxter was a rescue dog. Not sure of the breeding but he was predominately Border Collie. One of kids had a DNA test done and it came back with an extensive list of breeds. More parts than a 1/48 Airfix kit. Mum was a true sport. I have always found the mongrel breeds to so much more chilled than pure pedigrees.
When we first got him you could not even touch him, he’d obviously been badly abused. I’m not sure how any human could do that to an animal. I shudder to think that these a##holes go on to have kids.

There was something really freakish that happened on the morning that he died, and it was about the time they did the ultrasound.
I got one of those annoying (but sometimes interesting) notifications from Google photos and it was titled “Baxter”
I opened it up and I noticed that the progress bar at the top showed that there were 6 images in the set. The first image appeared and was one of my favourite photos of him. The next photo was the same but the image started to increasingly blur and deteriorate until it reduced to a blank coloured screen. The other 4 images would not display. I could not get it, or any of the other photos to display. I didn’t think much of it………but then the phone rang with the ultrasound results. Not quite X files stuff but odd all the same. A new product….Google Ghost?
