"avaricious " what a delightful word Charl in Russian, they say алчность (zhadnost)

...and the adjective: zhadnyy I love the way it sounds. I know a splendid Russian lady who has a hair salon, when she speaks it is pure honey.

мед , med,( mead) honey beer ...but, if one were to be a tad more ...not romantic, but ...I don't know, then, милая ....... милая, просто говорю... " honey, I'm just saying"... милая,(honey) being a term of endearment. Anyway..... what a waffle.... although not one of the "romantic" lingos (русский..russkiy) ...I too love the sound of the eastern European accent.

Back in the mid-1950s my Dad (who taught English and History) was trying to learn Russian. He was always quoting a lullaby, the first line of which sounded like:
"Spee moi yennetz, moi procrazne"
Us kids - I was about 6 at the time - all made our own translation, and 'yennets' entered the family vocabulary as a general term for "innards" especially where gears were involved, and an offer to spee someone's yennets was not at all friendly So much for glasnost

Back in the '50s the Cold War was well into the chill, so quite a radical thing to do! Imagine being told to behave or "I'll spee yer yennets!" Terrifying

I am free to a good home where a busty, blond, blue-eyed, Scandinavian blond resides, with a Harley Davidson '59 Panhead motorcycle parked in her garage for my everyday use. The best of both worlds! ..I might even learn Scandinavian?... ...!
