NZFF forum - recent 403 error and fix explained

Postby gojozoom » Mon Jun 24, 2019 12:15 pm

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd update you all on the issue that seem to have affected quiet a few users in the last 48 hours. The sire is running a Web Application Firewall called ModSecurity. These guys keep updating their rule-sets an the servers to continuously enhance protection against all sorts of intruders. This is a fully automated process. As a result of their last rule-set update this firewall denied access for a few of you. These were false-positives didn't only affect our site but a few others as well. Dean had a quick look yesterday and disabled it to re-enable access for all users. For now this is the best solution, as manually changing/bypassing the rules doesn't seem to work at this point. The vendor is working on an update (I'll keep an eye on that) - once it was tested we can re-enable this feature. Don't worry, the security of the forum is not compromised, our host is running multiple layers of firewalls, and protection tools. For now it is all sorted - once they provide me with an update I make sure I forward it to you all.

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'
