In case others have not seen this piece on AVSIM, then I will copy the link below, it makes very interesting reading!! So we will be able to navigate via the stars again when FSX finally (!) comes out. If they are also modelling the traffic on the roads, will the Auckland jams also be included? As it will come on 2 DVDs, I guess that I will HAVE to upgrade the computer as well!!!

It is really looking like it's going to be an epic step forward at the moment, although I imagine it's going to be pretty heavy on performance.

Although the screenshots look amazing- I don't think I will be purchasing it for a long while.

My system won't be able to handle it, and I can't be bothered forking out on Windows Vista any time soon as I am perfectly happy with fs2004 and XP ;)

You have a point - this is clearly designed for Win Vista and dual core processing.
Bear in mind that Vista will only have Service Pack 2 by 2008.
This will make it functional for the first time.
By that time 2006 model hyperthreading dual core processing computers will be so cheap you could buy two and have one on standby just in case Windows falls over. B)

And actually I dread moving from a nice fully-furnished system that works, to one that needs sliders over hard left and spits the dummy with all my favourite add-ons.

Don't you feel sorry for the MS flightsim team though? Everyone clamours for a new FS version and then we all grouse when it arrives :D

Wow thats amazing having a 2 seater option, last sim I saw that used was Lockon 1.02. Its cool being able to take people for a flight or use it for instruction purposes. I hope they have realistic damage and crash modelling as thats one aspect of flying that always fun in a sim.(yeah cause you can get away with it) I'll probably get FSX just for movie making but the player interaction looks way better than previous versions. I remember the first version many years ago its come a long way since then.(especially the civilian traffic, maybe some of the FSX devs play LO since its Civ traffic option adds alot to the immersion(theres even trains doing regular runs on the tracks))

More on FSX

Just saw that Microsoft have released another video about FSX:-

http://www.simhq.com/_downloads/air/FSX/FSX.wmv

this one is to show off the multiplayer properties. Does this mean that I have to buy TWO new computers then??!!!

Smooth landings.

Sounds like FSX is really cool. The step from 2002-2004 wasn't a huge one but it sounds like 2004-2006(FSX) is quite a leap.I see it as a great thing as they seem to be promising that most if not all our 2004 addons will work in FSX and that it will run on a wide range of systems.Im just wondering if my networked computers counts as a type of dual core system as I can assign different tasks to different computers while still running FS2004 on them all. We'll see in time I suppose,I think the $112NZ price tag is quite reasonable for what we will be getting.Us simmers must be one of the few groups not always rubbishing microsoft as I'm sure the rest of you are as grateful as I am for putting out Flight Simulator!

I'm should be buying a 2.4 ghz p4 soon and I'm going to upgrade the ram to a 1gb soon after, I hope fsx will be alright on it.
Are dual core procesors requird to run it?

$112NZ price tag

Thats great! Will we be able to get the "delux" version in New Zealand stright away ? and i'm guessing that would be quite a bit more expensive?
As soon as I get y new system ill be preordering it :D can't wait!
Even it runs poorly i'm used to it with fs9 on my 1ghz pc lol

i imagine it will be $99 for the standard version and $119 for the deluxe version

dual core won't be required to run it, but don't expect it to look pretty without it. i'd say the minimum specs would actually be around 1GHz. I remember installing FS98 on my 66MHz 486... it met minimum requirements but it literally ran at about 1 fps and i couldn't use it at all :(

i'm going to save my pennies for an intel core 2 duo system and run it with windows vista and DX10 goodness... mmmmmm

EVEN MORE ON FSX

Another update on FSX, just read it on the avsim site, but I thought that I would copy it across as it is also interesting:-

http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$ ... e/fsx1.htm

24 million roads!! Cars that indicate and change lanes!! Good to read that they are going to try and include backward compatibility so that FS2004 add-ons will still work.

Smooth landings!

It mite e okay on a 2.4 p4 , i wouldn't expec to see graphics anywere near those screenshots lol

I think ill preorder as soon as i know i'm definatly getting a new pc :)
The delux version isn't to much more expensive is it. hmm
A 1ghz requird specs isn't bad , I first ran fs9 on my parants 600mhz pc with 128mb ram lol !

73 days to wait...

I notice the official pre-order pricing is US$49.95 for the standard version and US$69.95 for the Deluxe version. I'm thinking double for NZ, so $99 and maybe $139?
that seems a bit pricy, but the Tower Control capability and an SDK pack for development should be worth the extra alone.

I'd be surprised if the deluxe was more than NZ$120, my guess would be standard at $90 and delux at $110.
For anyone who is 'into' the sim, the standard version may be false economy, a lot of people got caught out buying the wrong version of FS2002. I would like to see an upgrade for those who discover they need the deluxe.

The pre order prices in NZ$ seem to be about $80 for the standard version, and $112 for the deluxe version.

Smooth landings.
