Hi all,

I think I have finally caught the bug to purchase TRACKIR. I see on trademe it is $289 (firstgames.co.nz) - is this a standard price? Is there anywhere (particularly in Christchurch where I am) that you can buy it over the counter, ie: Dick Smith etc? Or is anybody here selling their TRACKIR? $289 is pretty steep!

I've never seen it for sale in stores, and unfortunately yes that is the standard price. It is definitely worth it though, I held off buying one for a long time because of the cost but I must say once I got one it's completely transformed my experience in FS and other sims - super cool little gadget!

well worth it Scotty, and another simmer in chch. you should come and see us some time at pacific simulators in main south road and have a look at our sims.

I am actually coming down Main South Road about 10-10:30, could I pop in then? Cheers

I have to delivery another couple of scenery files for Brent and the team , I'll be in at the same time

Hi again guys, this may be a too big of an ask, but would anybody in Christchurch kindly let me "try out" their TrackIR? Being near on $300, I am sort of wanting to see how it is in use before I splash out.

Great meeting up with you Scotty, dang impressive gear they have there, just a dang pity Russ, Sean, Brent and the team were simply super busy to get one off those superb simulators out the door, only an hour to push it onto a pallet and trucked out ... been there done that , hell off an organization .. now how did you go with your TrackIR

For what it's worth the TrackIR 5 Pro is $192.44 NZ at Amazon, in the U.S. but that's not including mailing and any local tax in NZ.

Youshop should be able to deal with that nicely then. Won't be any GST on it, shouldn't be duty either but I can check if people are reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally wanting to know.

They are pricey Scotty, and some peeps arent impressed, but I absolutely LOVE mine, best sim investment for me personally ever.
Better I think for low-n-slow and GA, less useful for tube-liners. You're into your fling-wing stuff right and is great for that.

Think I convinced him yesterday, thought it was wicked , because new to it, required that little play around.

They seem to be pretty essential for fighter sims like DCS, IL2 etc too. For airliners you've got time to #### about and sloowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwly make your way somewhere I'll be getting one sometime in the new year I should imagine.

Head tracking is very simple and cheap to DIY if you're that way inclined.
You can use FreeTrack, FaceTrackNoIR or OpenTrack software, and there is no end to information on building your own IR point models, or you can try face recognition or target recognition if you want.

Concur with the others, very well worth it for VFR flying in light aircraft.

I'd used mine for a while then my saitek headset started hurting my ears, so went to the track clip on a baseball cap for European Truck Sim 2 - very cool - then after a bit of "googling is my friend" and a walk into mighty ape to fine a packaging damaged pair of Logitech G930's for 80 bucks - re-ignited the MacGiver mode to get me this wireless set up, and works bloody well too
