Hi team ,
I have a couple of questions around the new version of flightsim prepare3d v2 I'm still running fs9 maxed out on a machine that is way over speced for it .Is anyone here running prepare 3d I tryed fsx a couple of years ago and was so dissapointed with the performance of it i reverted back to fs9 so I would like to know who here is running the sim and how does it go ? Also which version of the sim did you buy ?

My pc specs are

AMD 8350 cpu 4.0gig water cooled
Asrock970 extreme motherboard
8gigs ddr3 1600 ram
shappire 6870 gfx
Windows 7 Running on a samsung evo 120gig ssd
Fs9 running on samsung evo 256gig ssd
Silverstone 550watt psu ( this and my gfx card would be my weakest link )

I'm interested to know how P3D v2 stacks up on other peoples machines as well ,Im very keen to be dragged into the new wave of flightsim given we dont have too many options open to us and most add-ons are tailored toward fsx or now P3D .

That's a nice system there. Is it a 1 or 2GB card? You are right, the GPU is the weak point, Prepar3D relies on the GPU a lot more than FSX, and your card is pretty much at the low end of the scale. I have a similarly specced card (Nvidia 650ti Boost) but it is 2GB. It is certainly the limiting factor for me, and I can't imagine having less that 2GB -- 3 is recommended for P3D.

Having said that, I think that once P3D is patched (next week?) it'll be a killer sim, and I'm already hooked. I find FSX flat-looking and cartoony by comparison. Of course P3D is a bit short on compatible addons at the moment, so it depends on what and how you prefer to fly.

There are two different versions of P3D, but since Pro Plus costs US$2300, it is really only suitable if you are actually planning a war. However there are different license options, you just need to choose which suits you best. I use a Developer license (donated by a customer) which suits me perfectly. There is no real feature difference for different licenses, except that the Academic license has a small text watermark on screen.

Awesome thank you for the info my gfx card is 1 gig so this might require updating before purchasing p3d, watermarks on screen grrrrrrrrrrrrrr i would like the version simular to purchasing fsx accelleration im not a developer nor plan on becoming a commercial pilot just want a bloody good sim ! Its been a very long wait for most of us from fs9 .

I agree their is little around in terms of addons for p3d but i see this changing quickly and a major shift to the new sim from some big name developers .if the base sim is good then it can and will only get better .

Might have to research a new gfx and psu .

Forgot to add I fly mainly airline routes using my trusty ifdg a320 airbus and vasfmc again Im waiting on a descent a320 model but this is coming from flight sim labs . I also have another question around p3d can you and if so how do you fly online with vatsim ?

I fly P3D2 too, - finally uninstalled FSX a couple of weeks ago because I was never using it. For a number of reasons, especially frame rates in my case, P3D2 seems to give an experience which is much more like real flying than FSX.

No experience on Vatsim but I imagine a lot of people are using P3D2 on it (just a guess...).

I bought the Academic version on the basis that I am always learning and trying to improve how I fly and don't feel a need to make a large donation to the US military-industrial complex (of which Lockheed Martin is a major player). The watermark is so insignificant that I never notice it and when I do think about it (like now) I am thankful that I have the good sense not to throw my money away on useless things. P3d2 is so much better than FSX in my opinion and, as you say, just needs the addons, which will certainly come.

A major patch which will improve many aspects of the sim is due out in the next few days and third party developers are waiting for that before they release P3D2 versions of their own products. A lot of people are using the Aerosoft Airbus X Extended (AXE) with P3D2, although some tweaking is needed. It has been reported that the QualityWings Avro85 works well too. I'm pretty happy flying my default Bonanza around OrbX Australia at the moment (lots of time to drink beer and look at the scenery) while I wait for the big planes to come. A new weather engine is due soon for P3D2 (Active Sky Next), PMDG is hurrying to make their products P3D2 compatible, and as soon as some of these airliners are working I'm planning to get Aerosoft's Professional Flight Planner X, which is already P3D2 ready. The future looks very bright .

awesome thanks for taking the time to post , I'm almost reaching for my credit card now but I will wait for the patch to come out just to be sure . I have googled using FSINN on the vatsim network with P3D V2 but not alot of help so far but I'm sure its only a matter of time .once these big developers start rolling out updates etc I think we will see a changing of the guard so to speak .
