Calling all simmers/pilots,

Does anyone have any plans to organise another flight sim meet up?

Cheers,

Kelvin

Not out my square mile block, last one I went to was six years ago, up in Tauranga during the airshow a tent was setup displaying FS and stuff.

Did have another small meet at Omaka three years back, I was not a happy chappie still crook after my accident, but well worth setting up! cool.gif

It would be kind of nice to have 1 or 2 yearly meets.

Surprising , seems to be a regular thing people stopping here but its not at a venue suited unless I open the doors and have people come thru in a carousel mode tongue.gif

I'm up for one if it's in Auckland, - shouldn't be that hard to organise, - just need to name a pub and a date/time... or are you thinking of something a bit more technological, - like with a computer and everything?

Maybe you could tell us what you have in mind, and where.

Hey Kelvin. Great move bringing this up, we are well overdue a meetup. We did have a bit of a gathering in Nelson late 2011 organised by Nick and it was great to put some names to faces.

How about having one in Wellington, its nice and central, plenty of cheap-ish connecting flights from pretty much anywhere, and lots to see and do with traffic etc. Does anyone have any contacts at the airport?

I initially had a meetup in mind with FS gear included but perhaps there is also a demand for the pub meet or even meeting at an airfield. I know for certain that Ardmore has great facilities (i.e cafe and deck with picnic tables) that could provide the atmosphere (including the aircraft flying about.

There wouldn't be a huge chance for me to get out of Auckland unfortunately but perhaps in the future.

Kelvin, yeah a LAN party would be pretty cool, but I think you might struggle to find enough people who are prepared to pack up their stuff and get it to a venue.

A general gathering somewhere might have more legs, some things we could do at a meetup, especially at a hub airport...
* hangar tours
* maintenance company visits
* local/national airline/operator tour (e.g. Eagle at NZHN, MtCook at ChCh, AirNZ at Auck etc)
* tower visit (watch ops quietly)
* local museum visit
* local sim-pit visit
* and generally shooting-the-breeze over BBQ or dinner somewhere
* etc etc

This is pretty much the sort of agenda we had when Nick from vANZ organised the meetup in Nelson back in 2011.

Looks like there might be a North and South event, lol.

Well Deek, that sounds great! When I flew at Ardmore I didn't make the trip to the NZAA tower visit when it was planned.

I suppose it's getting someone to manage all this as I'm generally tied up with work stuff, yep, even in the evenings. I should follow my original thought of "I work to live not live to work", the age old saying aye?

Central - I wonder, another thought , the central RSA maybe an idea .... I'm sure something like this will pick up numbers for the that community.

Hi folks,
I support the idea of a flight sim meeting / show / seminar in NZ. For those that get that wonderful PC Pilot magazine (much cheaper on subscription from the UK) they advertised and reported on the UK show at RAF Cosford in their last magazine. That seemed to be a real show and some.

Could be a possibility (even if they are on the other side of the world) that they or some of their sponsors may consider some kind of sponsorship out here in the antipodes. Worth a try.

Omaka? Blenheim? Masterton even?
