I thought this might be an interesting poll, just to compare what others do in regards to one's own use of the sim. I find that 1x zoom is too close for everything in the distance, but 0.5x is too far. So, I just thought I'd see what everyone else thought of this.

One key to make a good landing from the cockpit is having the correct visibility. If your view is too close, or too far, it can make things difficult, as can moving the view up or down the screen to allow a good angle of view (using SHIFT + ENTER and SHIFT + BACKSPACE) will make things easier.

But for the purposes of this poll, I'm just curious at how zoomed everyone has their view out the window.

Cheers

(0.75 zoom for me)

PS, hope the poll choices are correct, I'm doing this from work lol

Well I just use no zoom, at times i can be a bit odd, such as t/o roll how looking at the ground you seem to be going prety slowly but if you zoom the view backwards lights and things flash by realistitcly..

(using SHIFT + ENTER and SHIFT + BACKSPACE)

Yeah but you must always remeber to keep an eye on the ADI, a 20degree pitch up tali strike on landing, that would be rather embarasing! :lol:

So I suppose I use 1.0times? Meaning I keep my finger of the plus/minus key whenever in 2d panel :P

I don't use 2D view, but if I did I'd probably zoom out a little.

mostly use 3d not 2d but use about 0.70 not 0.75 as I find this a bit more realistic and gives a trade off between readability of gauges and view outside

I'm also a 0.75er. My biggest problem is forgetting to alter it until I'm in the air, most unrealistic pulling over to change. Anyone figured out how to default it to that setting ?

Hmm, I'm another one who can't vote because I only use VC. I used to zoom out to about 70%, but now that I use TrackIR I tend to leave the view at 100, and get the wider view by moving my head.
I still zoom out if I'm feeling especially lazy though.

Yes you can make the zoom permanant, under the "views" section of the panel.cfg you can change the line "VIEW_FORWARD_ZOOM=XX.X" Replacing XX.X with the zoom factor you want.

Should look like this:

"[Views]
VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=4.5
VIEW_FORWARD_ZOOM=0.75 "

I noticed defualt aircraft dont have this line, I suppose you could simply add it in, most addon aircraft's panel.cfgs seem to have this section.

hope this helps
