Just saw this on CalClassic:
http://calclassic.proboards.com/thread/615...-restore-system

Why do MS do things like this?
Apart from people like us who keep up-to-date with things, I would say most FS users have the sim installed in the default location (as set by MS), and will now have their setup wrecked if they have to use System Restore.

System Restore has always done this.
Before running a Restore, you should sort files by date and temporarily rename files affected by the restore date to xxx.cfg.bak or somesuch.
Or (as I tend to) backup to an external HDD first.

Charl, it is only since I started using Win7 that I have made a point of installing FS outside Program Files. I restored the XP machine several times, and I never saw this effect.

Cheers

Mike you may have been lucky and not had a new .cfg file between restore points.
I have XP SP3, I freaked the first time all my carefully constructed custom repaints and new payware went walkabout!
System Restore BTW also eats Outlook files, it's not to be done lightly.

Yep same old story, Microsofts way or the highway - me I am on the highway and the only reason I even have windows as opposed to Linux is because of two programs, the old Lotus suite (123 etc) and FSX, otherwise I would get rid of them all together them and their stupid updates which wreck everything until you patch it and Adobe who just wreck everything. Ever noticed how you don't seem to control or own anything? Tick the box no updates, no change, change UAC no change, say notify me and let me decide no change, they just go ahead and do it anyway only difference is when you log off and suddenly the PC is doing updates, drives me nuts!!
